The First Ten Focus Group Feedback for Raven's Rise

Because Raven's Rise was Book of the Day, some of our most trusted members have carefully looked over the cover, the description, and other aspects of this book as a part of purchase-intent focus group. We then asked each participant in the focus group if they planned to buy and read the book, and why they planned to buy and read the book or not. Their answer to that question and reasons are displayed below. We call this awesome feature The First Ten Focus Group.

Keep in mind, the responses from the members are not reviews. This is purchase-intent focus group which means the participants are people who have NOT yet bought or read your book. A purchase-intent focus group is an important and extremely useful marketing tool for any product, not just books. For other products, you might walk on the street and show people an item in a package and poll them about whether they would buy if or $X or not. These kind of focus groups are one of the ways big marketing companies find the ideal price points for products and test the effectiveness of different packaging. The focus group can help you identify your market so you how to target ads of your book, and it can (but may not) provide you new useful info about your "packaging" (e.g. your book cover, your book synopsis on Amazon, etc.). The point of the focus group comments is to give you information from people who have not bought or read your book about why they plan to buy your book which will help you in marketing the book. These are not reviews or critiques of your book because they are not from people have read the book. This is a marketing tool, not reviews. The trick of book marketing and book advertising is that you have to convince people who have not read your book yet that your book is worth buying and reading. For marketing, it doesn't matter much if people love your book after reading it if you cannot convince potential buyers before they read it that they will love it.

IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable. This is because we only poll about 20 or so readers, and all readers have to say "no" to almost all books. Over a million books are published each year. Even a very active reader cannot come close to even reading 1% of books out there.

This is also why publishing books is such a tough industry.

Since this is the third book in the series and I purchased the first two, I'll be purchasing this one also. After reading the sample, it seems to be an exciting continuation of the first two.

I enjoyed the first installment in this series, "Raven's Peak." However, I have not yet read the second installment. After sampling the beginning of "Raven's Rise," the writing and pacing seem consistent of the previous work I have read by this author. Depending on how I feel about the second installment, I may choose to read "Raven's Rise," but it is just too early to say at this point. I did not notice any editorial issues in the beginning sample.

It's hard to enjoy a sample when it's the third in a series and you haven't completed the other two books. I was confused from the beginning like I missed a lot of the plot. It is well written and free from errors. I didn't notice an OBC review but it wouldn't have made a difference. At this time I won't be reading this one. Maybe in the future once I've read the other.

The cover is beautiful and seems to fit well with the title. There are some positive reviews, so far, which is always good. The genre (horror/occult) is one that I sometimes enjoy and I like how the blurb seems concise. However, since I had not planned to read the second in the series, I would not have sampled this read without this program. Based on what I read, the book does seem to be professionally edited. The author has a great way in letting his readers into his supernatural world. Throughout the sample, it was easy for me to picture what was happening and the feelings the characters possessed - Matt was scared for his life, Haatim was angry at his father, and his father desperate to reason with his son. At this point in time, however, I have already decided to pause on this series since I feel the genre may be a bit tiring for me. This might change in the future and I can definitely see many will enjoy the series, but for now, I do not plan on purchasing this book today.

I think I will be reading this book because the first books have gotten me hooked, and I'm expecting this book to also be a book that you can't put down. So much action packed, that I am going to read the book. It seems professionally edited. I did not see any review, and I don't think that would affect my decision.

I would not have sampled this book without this program because I did not read the first two books. After reading the first ten pages, I won't be finishing this book. I didn't want to read the first two, and this one seemed very similar. I like that it starts off with a bang, but the content isn't for me. It did seem to be professionally edited. The fact that there was not an OBC review did not really affect my decision about this book.

If I had not read the sample, I would have read the book. but only after reading the first two. I am in the mood for paranormal horror. After reading the sample, I have not changed my mind, but most of my decision was based off reading the samples of previous books. I felt like I lacked a lot of context when reading this, but I knew that the writing style was interesting and professionally edited. The lack of an official review did not affect my decision.

This author has been getting a lot of love on OBC recently and it's been fun reading what his fans have to say. I like the author's writing style and find the characters to be interesting. I'm not so sure the story is for me and will need to finish books 1 and 2 before committing to book 3. The book appears to be professionally edited and error-free.

The cover and title of the book would have caught my attention. After reading the beginning of the second book, however, I would not have looked into this book any further. The description, without considering the other books, might have caught my attention. The book seemed professionally edited. Once again, however, this book suffers from the same issue as the second book. Everything is too introspective, and the characters are telling the reader how they feel, rather than showing. I was entirely uninterested, although I somewhat hope that if I read the first book, that would change. I would not continue reading this book.

I definitely had already planned on reading this one, because I usually try to participate in the book of the month. I figured now was a good time to grab my copy, cinch it's offered at a discount. I didn't find the cover on this one very appealing, it's just very plan and doesn't give anything away regarding the theme of the book. Reading the first ten pages was interesting, as interesting involved Abagail the demon hunter. I'm looking forward to the rest of the story and the book of the month!

As the previous two books in the series, this one is fast-paced as well. On the technical front, it seems to be edited professionally. Like the description suggested, this book is adrenaline charged and a lot of events are happening simultaneously. As with the previous installment, a reader will need to follow the series in sequence and cannot miss the previous books, which seems a downside for the series. Since I passed the previous books, it is difficult to make sense of this one. Also, this one seems pretty long. Hence, I won't be reading this one.

Any book that is introduced by a Nietzsche quote is going to be at least a little creepy. However, creepy isn't my favorite, and I had opted out of the first book (and the second yesterday). I knew that I wouldn't be buying this one. The opening pages seemed pretty well written as usual, but I have no background on what's going on with plot and characters, so I have no insights there. It's not my favorite genre, so I'll pass on this one.

The cover continues the theme and cohesion with the other books in the series, good detail. I enjoyed the first ten pages of this book, more than what I liked the other two books. The author describes the action and the emotions of the characters really well. There is a good balance that make the dark situations feel bearable. Characters feel relatable, too. I would buy this book from the series, I liked it more than the others.

After sampling this book, I'm not at all surprised that once again, it is very well written. The author has a talent for keeping the series exciting and interesting to his readers. The cover of the book is more interesting than the previous one and really depicts the tone of the series. The only reason I won't buy this book is because it's not a genre I prefer.

Much the same as the second, my reading of this one depends on my reading of the first. The cover is fitting and I like it. The sample was good. There was an error. A missing 'in' in a sentence in the prologue.
Because I still haven't decided to read the first one, I can't say that I will absolutely read this, so I must say no. However, I will keep it in mind.

As with yesterday's book of the day, this's is a follow up (the third in the series this time) to Raven's Peak, a book I enjoyed the sample of but haven't read yet. The writing is still top notch and, like yesterday, it definitely seems like I'll want to read the original first. While I'm sure I'll read this book eventually, I have two books to read before I get to this one!

At first glance, I really like the cover of this novel. The premise is interesting and I like how the titles of the series fit. After reading the first few pages, I can say that this book is professionally edited and well-written. Unfortunately I do not intend to purchase this book today because I have not read the previous novels in this series.

The Prologue and first chapter of this book was really exciting to read. If I were not a part of the First Ten program, I would have sampled Raven's Rise due to my own curiosity in the book series. The absence of an Online Book Club review did not deter me from sampling it, and I'm glad that I did. My favorite part of the book was the scene in the first few pages of the Prologue in which Matthew Eicholt was alone in the church. The scene was set very well to be scary. I will definitely purchase and read the book. There were no typos.

Since the first two books did not spark my interst, this one is not any different. I am simply not interested in the storyline. On the other hand, the cover and title are intriguing. After I read the sample, I am still not interested. I will not be purchasing this book.

Had I not sampled the book, I wouldn't have read it. I usually prefer to read romance books. Further, I haven't read the first two books in the series. Having read the sample, my opinion remains. I liked the author's writing style and the atmosphere created. The book seems professionally edited. I did not come across an onlinebookclub review for the book, but I don't think that the absence of one affected my decision. I do not read this genre usually, and hence, I will not be reading any book in the series.

I think this book would be interesting for those readers who have read the first two books. After reading the blurb, I wouldn't pick it up because I would rather not start a book that is part of a series as I don't have much time to read it. After reading the first ten pages, I do think it is well-written and interesting. But it's not for me.

Lincoln Cole's book 3 Raven's Rise again has set the bar high. Storytelling at its best. I absolutely lovedthe preview. I had to buy this book to see what happens to characters Haatim and crew. I have found the series to be exciting. Looking forward to seeing where this one goes.

Definitely purchasing this one and reading it! I already got and finished the first two books and looking forward to seeing how the series ends. I love this one and can't wait to see what else is in store for this world in the future. I read the sample of this one to see how the series goes from here and I am really looking forward to seeing what happens.

The cover, reviews, and blurb of the book are very appealing and there is definitely a possibility, having seen the series come up here in OBC over and over, that I would have picked this book up without having read the first ten pages. It seems like a fast paced fantasy which may be up my alley. Having read the first ten pages, I haven't changed my mind. I seems exciting and intriguing. This was true about the second book as well, but I absolutely love how the conflict and action literally starts at page 1. The family drama (which I would likely understand more having read the rest of the series) was an added point of interest. I will not be buying the book today, solely for the reason that I haven't yet read the other two in the series. This looks very well written and edited and the lack of an OBC review did not affect this review at all.

The cover is not something that would catch my eye, but I do like the font used for the title. I didn't get a good sense of the plot from the Amazon blurb, and only understood that the book is about the occult from the Amazon genre categorization. The summary made me feel that this is not a standalone book, and that I would have to first read the other two books in the series. The sample pages appears to be edited well. Similar to the summary, I was confused and felt like I stepped into the middle of a story. I am not planning to read this book unless I decide to read the other two books first.

I probably wouldn't have sampled this on my own, as didn't read the pervious book. The cover is cool and the blurb short and concise. I understand from the reviews that this book picks up right where the second book left of. I read the first book but not the second one. Thus, I found the beginning a bit confusing. The book started out with an action all right and it certainly had me intrigued. However, as it is the third in the series, and I haven't read the second one, I won't buy the book today.

Total ~ 33%

Raven's Rise earned a score of 33%.

In other words, out of the top-level reviewers who read at least the first 10 pages of this book, 33% plan to read the whole book.

IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable.

Over a million books are published each year. Any given person could not even read .0001% of the books out there. This means readers have to be very selective. Even taking the time to look over reviews and blurbs, let alone read samples, is more time than most readers can afford for most books. The First Ten is a powerful focus group that addresses those issues. It creates a helpful tool for authors, publishers, and other readers.
