The First Ten Focus Group Feedback for Heads Will Roll
Because Heads Will Roll was Book of the Day, some of our most trusted members have carefully looked over the cover, the description, and other aspects of this book as a part of purchase-intent focus group. We then asked each participant in the focus group if they planned to buy and read the book, and why they planned to buy and read the book or not. Their answer to that question and reasons are displayed below. We call this awesome feature The First Ten Focus Group.
Keep in mind, the responses from the members are not reviews. This is purchase-intent focus group which means the participants are people who have NOT yet bought or read your book. A purchase-intent focus group is an important and extremely useful marketing tool for any product, not just books. For other products, you might walk on the street and show people an item in a package and poll them about whether they would buy if or $X or not. These kind of focus groups are one of the ways big marketing companies find the ideal price points for products and test the effectiveness of different packaging. The focus group can help you identify your market so you how to target ads of your book, and it can (but may not) provide you new useful info about your "packaging" (e.g. your book cover, your book synopsis on Amazon, etc.). The point of the focus group comments is to give you information from people who have not bought or read your book about why they plan to buy your book which will help you in marketing the book. These are not reviews or critiques of your book because they are not from people have read the book. This is a marketing tool, not reviews. The trick of book marketing and book advertising is that you have to convince people who have not read your book yet that your book is worth buying and reading. For marketing, it doesn't matter much if people love your book after reading it if you cannot convince potential buyers before they read it that they will love it.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable. This is because we only poll about 20 or so readers, and all readers have to say "no" to almost all books. Over a million books are published each year. Even a very active reader cannot come close to even reading 1% of books out there.
This is also why publishing books is such a tough industry.

The cover of this book is so creepy! It caught my attention. I read the description, and while it sounded interesting, I wasn't sure if it was for me. I read the sample and changed my mind. The characters are interesting and the plot is unique. It's also scary because medical science is working on this idea now. I downloaded the book and look forward to reading it.

My first impression of this one was the insane cover. With a plot surrounding head transplants, I can easily say that this sounds like a truly original read. I also don't think I've ever read a medical thriller before, but there's definitely a first time for everything! I'm going to give this one a chance mainly because its something totally usual.

The cover is creepy and the title seems to fit with its creepy feeling. I don't tend to read many horrors, and though the blurb is clear, the concept doesn't pique my interest. It would be nice to have an OBC review, but it does look like many customers enjoyed this read. Overall, I would not have sampled this read without this program. Based on what I read, the book does seem to professionally edited. I really like the writing flow and how Kaneko is relatable as a teenager who is on the "chunky" side. There is also something about the plot that is keeping me engaged. I want to know why Kaneko and her father have brought behind the locked door. So, even though initially I would not have considered reading this, I think I've changed my mind. After sampling and this being a free book, I do plan on giving this a full read.

Based on the cover I was pretty interested. I love thrillers and this on has a creepy photo that screams crazy and wild ride. I didn't see an OBC review but it would not have changed my mind on my decision because the Amazon reviews and description did enough. After sampling I am a little underwhelmed but I will give the benefit of the doubt and complete reading this one. I didn't see any errors.

The first chapter was a great start for the story. It sucked me right in and kept me engrossed for the entire length of the sample on Amazon. I liked Kaneka's character. Being Asian myself, I understood Kaneka's unquestioning obedience since it reflected my own upbringing, though on a less severe scale. The second chapter was a bit confusing at first since I couldn't figure out who was narrating. But, over all, I liked the sample and would definitely continue on with the story.

This fits in with my some of my reading tastes, so I might have looked at this.
I found some confusing sentences, though not exactly clear errors. The cover is fitting and caught my interest.
I am interested in this, but can't commit to reading it right now, though I may come back to it. I love when fiction is inspired by real science, and I find this fascinating.

I would have chosen to sample or read this book based on the editorial review, because the theme is fascinating and has contemporary relevance. I am going to buy and read the whole book after seeing from the first ten pages that it is clearly and vividly written, so my first guess was confirmed by the sample. I noticed a missing article and some slight oddities in the language, but this read as if it had been professionally edited. What I liked best was the first sentence, which represented a strong and gripping start. The story then proceeds at a steady and not too fast pace, so I could not fault the pacing; the language could perhaps be slightly improved. I did see an official Online Bookclub review.

From the cover, I don't think I would be reading this book because it is a horror novel along with dolls. I will be reading this book because it seems like the character has a lot of background and seems to be taken place in Japan! That sounds very interesting. It seems professionally edited. I did not see a review, and a lack of a review did not affect my decision.

I have decided not to purchase this book even though I enjoyed the first ten pages. The reason is that the subject matter does not interest me. I did not see any errors and the book looks to be professionally edited. I read the official review and it did make the book sound extremely interesting.

I would not have sampled this book without this program because it doesn't have an OBC review. I tend to pick books based on their reviews. After reading the first ten pages, I will be finishing this book. I was pulled in by the first sentence. I could also relate to the teenage girl, and am excited to read more about her character. It did seem to be professionally edited.

I was immediately drawn to this cover. It is creative, unique, and eye-catching. However, after reading the first ten pages, I have decided this book isn't for me. The sample didn't keep my attention. After reading the Amazon description, I have concluded that I am not interested in the storyline. I will not be reading this book.

Heads Will Roll by Joanie Chevalier has such a creepy book cover that I would not have started reading this if it wasn't for the first ten program. The novel opens by revealing information that could have been best hinted at before being disclosed (this would have built some suspense.) This novel seems to be about the life of Kaneko, a Japanese teenage girl, who's head is transplanted to another body. Intriguing plot but the writing style did not convince me to read the book anytime soon.

A pile of broken doll heads on the cover is so creepy, I definitely would not have picked this book out without this program. As I learned more about it, I still wasn't feeling inclined to read it. I've seen the idea of a head transplant or a brain transplant in a book before, and I found it more creepy than compelling. Without a review, I didn't have any insight into the book's strengths or weaknesses. As I read the first ten pages, I needed something to stand out as exceptional in the writing for me to decide to keep reading. While there was nothing that was particularly bad, I didn't find anything that kept me enthralled.

The cover of this book is certainly eye-catching, although it's a bit disturbing. The summary blurb appears to be professionally edited and gives a good sense of the plot and themes. The beginning pages are generally well written and there is a nice, easy flow to the writing. I spotted one error on the first page - business man should be one word. Although this book might appeal to some readers, I am not interested in reading further due to my reading preferences (I don't care for horror or medical thrillers).

I like the cover and the title. The blurb and reviews make me interested in reading the book. I sometimes enjoy this genre. I may have sampled this book without this program. An OnlineBookClub review would have been helpful in letting me know if I would enjoy this book. It does appear to be professionally edited. After reading the first ten pages, I will continue reading, because I am interested to find out what happens.

I found the concept behind this book quite intriguing. The description was quite helpful in pointing what to expect from this book. From the description and sample it is evident that the book has good amount of thrill, science fiction and ethical dilemmas involved to hook the reader. The book seems to be edited properly as well. However, without a review I'm quite skeptical about this book. From the sample, it is evident that the book poses difficult questions and more than that, the idea behind the book is also slightly scary for me. Therefore, I'll skip this one.

"Heads Will Roll" is a good book with medical theme along with some thrill. The concept of head transplant is very unique to me. I am not fond of reading medical books, but, this one is very different. The author has done a great job. When I came across this book, I could not convince myself to read it. But, my decision changed after reading first ten pages of this book. I liked this book.
The book is well formatted. I did not find any spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. Also, the cover of this book fits very nicely with the story. I would definitely like to read the entire book.

From the cover, blurb, and description of this book I may potentially have picked it up. The concept behind the story is extremely intriguing and definitely something I would usually read. After the first ten pages I was not disappointed. The character set up was great and the author's creepy style set the stage for the book in a way I loved. I will definitely be reading the rest of this book. Despite a lack of an official OBC review, it was clear that this book was week written and edited. This lack of a review didn't affect my decision at all.

I find this cover picture incredibly disturbing. I think I'd pick it up just to see what it's about. It definitely has a horror or thriller look about it. Unfortunately there wasn't an Onlinebookclub review which was a shame as I'd have loved to get another person's opinion on the story. The blurb on Amazon certainly outlined an interesting concept of switching heads onto different bodies. The pages which I read were well written and edited. However, in the first page it describes Kaneko as having thin arms, then in the next paragraph describes her as chunky. I find the premise for this story both creepy and interesting, and I think it will be a good basis for a thriller. Other than the confusion with the description of Kaneko, I can think of no improvements. I will continue to read this book.

At first I thought this was the new book by author Tracy Chevalier and I was so excited to sample it. Once I realized it was a different writer, I was less thrilled, but it looked interesting and I read a few pages anyway. The story clips along at a good pace and I like the style. I get the sense that the introductory pages will lead up to something sinister and I want to find out what happens next. This book appeared to be professionally edited and error free.

After reading the first ten pages of, Heads Will Roll by Joanie Chevalier, I have decided I will be finishing reading this book. Before I even read a sample of this book the cover immediately grabbed my attention. Initially, I thought it was a horror story but was still interested when I learned it was a medical thriller instead. I really like how true to life the characters are so far. From what I have read the first ten pages this book does appear to be professionally edited. While this book does not have an official OnlineBookClub review, it has no impact on my decision to finish reading this book.

If I had not read the sample pages I would have been interested in reading this book. The cover is creepy but really draws you in, the reviews are great, and the blurb is interesting. After reading the sample pages I will continue. The writing style was great and really engaging. The book seemed professionally edited and I found no grammatical errors. I could not see an Official OnlineBookClub review, but I want to read the book regardless.

I was initially really interested by the blurb for 'Heads Will Roll.' Although there was no OBC review to read, there are a lot of reviews on Amazon, so I didn't mind the lack of an OBC review. Since this BOTD was free, I would have considered buying it before sampling it for this program. Based on the sample, I liked certain aspects of the narrative but wasn't thrilled by others. I thought the author did a great job drawing the reader in from the first few pages. I immediately wanted to know more about this world and the protagonist. However, the writing felt a little mundane and juvenile. If the writing were better, I would consider reading more of this book since I'm fascinated by the plot. However, the boring writing style will prevent me from reading this one further.

If I had not read the first ten pages as a part of this program, I would not have chosen to read this book. I think the cover is creepy and I didn't think that I would be interested in the premise of having a head transplant. However, after reading the first ten pages, I was definitely intrigued. I had pity for Kaneko and the way her father treated her. I am interested in what will happen to her. I did not find any technical or grammatical errors and the author's style of writing was engaging. I look forward to reading the rest of the book.

I loved the idea of this book from the Amazon description, and I loved it even more when I dove in and saw the mystery and darkness behind the forced decision and surprise for Kaneko's head transplant. I definitely want to finish this book, especially since it was free!

I think the cover and title are perfect for what the book is about. I really like the concept and the premise of head transplants, its definitely an interesting topic. I would actually love to read this because I am a huge fan of medical thrillers. Unfortunately I just don't have the time right now but I would love to read this in the future.

The synopsis was intriguing because it talked about a head transplant. But the book cover was very creepy. I will read the rest of the book because of the sample. There were no visible typos but there were some awkward phraseology. That said, chapter one was very intriguing so I would like to read more. The lack of review did not affect my decision.

Today's choice for book of the day. Heads Will Roll by Joanne Chevrolet has a thriller preview that wets the imagination of the reader. It almost demands to the reader to get their copy. Joanie thanks for making the book free. I have added it to my reading list.

I find the cover and title very disturbing. I would not have sampled this book without the first ten pages program. After reading the Amazon blurb, the concept seems interesting but this is not a genre I enjoy reading. The first ten pages were well written. I'm not 100 percent sure all the grammar was correct but it was easily readable. I do not plan to read this book any further. As mentioned, this is not a genre I enjoy.

If the rest of the book is as creepy as the sample, count me in. It's even creepier because I've been to the Tsukuji Fish Market in Tokyo. The author did well researching Japanese customs because so far everything rings true. Trying to find clothing in Japan was definitely difficult when I lived there.

Heads Will Roll by Joanie Chevalier has one of the most intriguing covers I have ever seen! Based on the cover and the multiple outstanding reviews, I would definitely read this book. The blurb describes a story unlike any that I have read, and I appreciate the original idea brought forth by Chevalier.
After reading the first ten pages, I have no doubt that I will enjoy this book. The idea is novel and the writing is very good. I noted no grammatical errors or typos. I liked the different cultural perspective presented in the first ten pages, too. It seems as if the author has done her research and the characters will not only have depth, but be accurate.
I am looking forward to this read!

This is a fascinating looking book cover and definitely something unique, though in a very unsettling way. This book seems like it would be scary, but it also seems unsettling, and that isn't something I'm really looking for right now. The opening seems clean and well put together, it just isn't the sort of book I want to read right now. All in all, a good entry.

I probably would have sampled the book on my own, as I love the genre. The cover is eye-catching and the blurb had me hooked. The premise of transplanting a head into a new body sure captured my attention. The opening scene pulled me into the story right away. I enjoyed the sample and liked the writing. I will definitely read the balance of the book, as I find the premise fascinating. I didn't see any OBC review, but will still read the book.

Total ~ 69%
Heads Will Roll earned a score of 69%.
In other words, out of the top-level reviewers who read at least the first 10 pages of this book, 69% plan to read the whole book.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable.
Over a million books are published each year. Any given person could not even read .0001% of the books out there. This means readers have to be very selective. Even taking the time to look over reviews and blurbs, let alone read samples, is more time than most readers can afford for most books. The First Ten is a powerful focus group that addresses those issues. It creates a helpful tool for authors, publishers, and other readers.
