The First Ten Focus Group Feedback for Gray Wolf Mate: League Of Gallize Shifters

Because Gray Wolf Mate: League Of Gallize Shifters was Book of the Day, some of our most trusted members have carefully looked over the cover, the description, and other aspects of this book as a part of purchase-intent focus group. We then asked each participant in the focus group if they planned to buy and read the book, and why they planned to buy and read the book or not. Their answer to that question and reasons are displayed below. We call this awesome feature The First Ten Focus Group.

Keep in mind, the responses from the members are not reviews. This is purchase-intent focus group which means the participants are people who have NOT yet bought or read your book. A purchase-intent focus group is an important and extremely useful marketing tool for any product, not just books. For other products, you might walk on the street and show people an item in a package and poll them about whether they would buy if or $X or not. These kind of focus groups are one of the ways big marketing companies find the ideal price points for products and test the effectiveness of different packaging. The focus group can help you identify your market so you how to target ads of your book, and it can (but may not) provide you new useful info about your "packaging" (e.g. your book cover, your book synopsis on Amazon, etc.). The point of the focus group comments is to give you information from people who have not bought or read your book about why they plan to buy your book which will help you in marketing the book. These are not reviews or critiques of your book because they are not from people have read the book. This is a marketing tool, not reviews. The trick of book marketing and book advertising is that you have to convince people who have not read your book yet that your book is worth buying and reading. For marketing, it doesn't matter much if people love your book after reading it if you cannot convince potential buyers before they read it that they will love it.

IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable. This is because we only poll about 20 or so readers, and all readers have to say "no" to almost all books. Over a million books are published each year. Even a very active reader cannot come close to even reading 1% of books out there.

This is also why publishing books is such a tough industry.

This book's cover left me curious about its contents and the OBC review urged me to sample it when it mentioned that this is a novel about shifters. When I read the first ten pages, I liked the tension that Cole felt, which left him torn between the human and shifter worlds. As I encountered no grammatical errors, I'll conclude that the text underwent professional editing. I will, however, not read the rest of the book because my reading list is already too long. As it is, there's nothing I would change about the bit I read.

I wasn't attracted to the book title or its cover art and that didn't change after reading the sample. The book is written quite clearly and simply but the lack of immediate dialogue generally makes me bored if it isn't a nonfiction book. It seems to be professionally edited although I saw a subject-verb disagreement on the first page... "He couldn't risk being caught off guard and 'blow' this mission." 'Blow' should have been 'blowing' The OBC review I saw was fairly OK but didn't convince me to read the book.

The title conveys that it's a story that's related to a wolf, but that's about it. I could not get much info. about what the story is about. The cover is indicative of the fact that it's about a 'shifter' story. I went through the Amazon summary of the book, and found that I will not be interested in this book as story of shifters is not something I am interested in reading. As I sampled through the book, I found the narration to be very specialized, with peculiar words about shifters and their way of life, and I decided that I am not going to read this book in full because of this. I found the book professionally edited, and I found no grammatical or mechanical errors. The thing I liked the most about the story is the imagination of the author about the shifters. I could not find anything that could be improved in the book. Although I found one OBC review on the book, my decision to not to read the book is not influenced by the review.

“Gray Wolf Mate: League of Gallize Shifters” is not a book I would purchase blindly. I’m not a fan of paranormal romance books, so nothing about this one appealed to me. Although the OBC review was positive, it didn’t sway my opinion in this case because the premise and genre of the book simply don’t interest me. After reading the first ten pages, my initial opinion didn’t change. I thought the writing, though error free, lacked finesse. The sample was made up of long-winded and winding sentences that were confusing at times. Further, there was a lot of showing instead of telling in the beginning, which quickly became boring to read. Lastly, Cole, the first character we are introduced to seemed like every other male lead I’ve read in a book like this. Nothing about the sample really held my attention. Thus, I don’t plan to read more of this one.

I would not have sampled this book based on the genre, blurb, OBC review, title and cover. I'm not really into fantasy books, and a book about shifters isn't one I would usually make an exception for. After reading the first ten pages, I won't be finishing this book. It lost me when it was talking about all of the different types of shifters. There were also a few terms that were used but not really defined. For example, "mages" was used, but I wasn't sure what they were referring to in this context. The book did seem to be professionally edited, although I did notice that only Justin's dialogue was in italic print and I wasn't sure why. I did like the way their different technologies were described.

The cover is a bit cheap and seen on a ton of other books, it made me think it would be a romance book so I only sampled it because of this program. The description confirmed my suspicions. As for the sample, I like that it started with action and that the reader got to meet Cole (there were no endless descriptions of the main character, which is a plus). The book seemed proofread, if not edited. The storyline is the main reason why I won't buy the book despite good reviews. There's hardly anything unique (except the idea of Gallize shifters) and I've seen almost everything mentioned in the description in many other books. Therefore, there won't be any surprises in the plot that would keep me entertained. It also seems packed with romance, so I'll skip this one.

I wouldn't have sampled this on the basis of the cover or genre as I don't read shifter romances. I also won't buy and read the book today on the basis of the first ten pages because I found the story a little hard to follow. I didn't see any errors so it seems to have been professionally edited; this was confirmed by the OnlineBookClub review, which did also mention that this book stands out among others in the genre. I liked the idea about the special Gallize shifters best. There seemed to be a lot of telling in the first few pages, which seemed weaker than the showing, so maybe that could be improved.

Had I not actually sampled the first ten pages as part of this program, I would not have chosen to read or sample this book based on the genre. I'm not quite interested in shapeshifters.
I am not going to buy and read the whole book because of the genre.
Based on what I read, the book seems like it was professionally edited. I didn't notice typo or grammar errors.
What I like the most in the bit I read is that it was clear on the wolf side and human side. His history was seamlessly introduced.
What could be improved is nothing that I could think of.
The book has an Official OnlineBookClub review that I saw.

From the cover, blurb, and review of this book, I wouldn't have read it. I'm not a fan of romance novels and paranormal romance are even less interesting to me. After reading the first ten pages, I didn't change my mind. For lovers of the genre, I can definitely see, having read the first ten pages, how it could be attractive to them. I liked how within a short period of time the author was able to convey a bit of history, how the world works, information about the Gallize, discussions on the Power Barons, and overall an introduction to the world in which the book exist. As well, the book seems well written and edited. Despite all this, I will not be buying and reading the rest of this book simply as the genre isn't interesting to me at all. The official review did not affect my decision at all.

Paranormal and romance genres are not my cup of tea, and this book is a combination of both. I still wouldn't have picked this book up because romance was never appealing to me. However, after sampling the first ten pages, I am quite interested in the idea of a shifter as a character. The descriptions are good too, especially when it comes to the animal side of the character. I would want to read this book setting aside the romance part. The plot seems too cliche and I hate cliches, thus, I won't finish the book. If it's the shifters versus the humans then I think it would very interesting for me. There are no typos and errors. I've read the official OBC review and it helped in tweaking a bit of my curiosity to try a few pages of this book.

Even without The First Ten program, I would read this book because the cover, the title, the genre, the blurb, and the official OBC review had captured my interest. Aside from that, this is also the Book of the Month so reading this book is an advantage. I could interact in this book's group discussion. Reading the first ten pages made me read on. The strong female character and the wolf on the cover remind me of The Twilight movie. I think. Shape shifters and mating curse add to my interest in reading this book. Gray Wolf Mate: League Of Gallize Shifters by NYT bestseller Dianna Love is a paranormal romance of the college lovebirds, Tess Janver (a worker in a preternatural criminal investigation unit) and Cole Carvanaugh (a Gazille shifter) with underlying themes of love, second chances, and mating curse.

Without the first ten program, I would not have chosen to read Dianna Love's novel because the title, cover and Amazon blurb once again remind me of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series. I wish there were more editorial reviews. However, the existing one promises "a truly ground-breaking paranormal romance." Moreover, more than 90% of the customer reviews give the novel 4 or 5 stars and were impressed by the original storyline. I like the fact that the story starts in media res and Cole Cavanaugh's reminiscences of the past are used to explain the conflict between humans and the shape shifters. As the story progressed, I realized the reference to bear shifters or even elephant shifters is too much for me. It gives me the feeling the author would use anything just to attract the readers' attention. Besides, I have grown tired of the much exploited theme of the damsel-in-distress who needs protection from a powerful male figure having supernatural skills. When nothing happened for pages, I was tempted to give up reading. I kept reading through chapter 2, but again the action drags and it seems to take ages for Cole to complete his mission. The OBC review mentions the fact that there are some strong female characters. Unfortunately, I do not have the patience to read more to actually see if the observation is true or not. I could not find any technical errors in the pages I have read. Regardless, my final decision is to skip this book for now especially since I have so many other books on my reading list.

The cover looks good for the genre. I like thar there is good background material given in the first ten pages. I sometimes read paranormal stories so I might have read further even if I were not part of this program. The reviews show a lot of romance and star crossed lovers stuff as part of this story. Based on that I probability will not read the rest of this book. I did not see any editorial errors in the first ten pages so I presume that it was professionally edited.

Having seen my fair share of werewolf (or wolf shapeshifter) novels, the cover of Gray Wolf Mate, along with the title, seemed pretty generic. Hence, I would not have chosen to sample this novel apart from First Ten. Though in the blurb, Gray Wolf Mate is described as a high-action story, the book's focus on romance made me very apprehensive about reading. I avoid most typical romance novels due to sexual content and I was worried this would be the case here too. The sample went slowly for me, due to my lack of interest. Slow development is not unusual in the beginning of novels so that didn't exactly affect my decision on whether to read or not. However, the official OBC review did with the mention of sexual content. Although Tess and Cole's love story seemed memorable, I wasn't up for skipping through pages of sexual content. This book seemed professionally edited and I didn't notice any grammatical errors.

I wouldn't typically be drawn in by a book cover with a wolf on it, but Dianna Love's name captured my interest. Although I have not yet read any of the books she wrote with Sherrilyn Kenyon, I have read many books by Kenyon which put my expectations for Love pretty high. Other than my general love of paranormal romances and my interest in discovering if Love is as superb a writer as Kenyon, there was nothing in particular that really made me want to read this book. I likely would have eventually read this book simply because of my somewhat familiarity with the author. However, after reading the sample I believe I will pass. I was left feeling like this book is pretty mediocre. The first few chapters failed to capture my interest and I don't really feel compelled to continue. The writing is fine; I didn't notice any errors. I just felt kind of disinterested, so I will pass on this one.

Based on the genre, had I not read the first 10 pages, I would not have read this book. I used to like paranormal romance novels, but lately I have lost interest in them. Now that I have read the first 10 pages, I still don't plan on reading this book. It was nice to see that the main character was an adult and not a teenager as in a lot of other paranormal romance novels. It started off pretty much just giving the history of the shifters, but gave nothing that kept me wanting to continue reading. I didn't notice any typos or grammatical errors and there was an official OnlineBookClub review.

After reading the blurb, I don't think I would pick this book up because paranormal romance isn't really a genre I'm into. After reading the first ten pages, I didn't see any spelling or grammar errors. I liked reading the book from Cole's and Tess's points of view. I could feel the love they still have for each other even after all that time. I also think the different shifter breeds is a really creative and original take on the shifter lore so it's actually refreshing to read a paranormal romance that seems different from others. However, this genre isn't something I'm really interested, so although I'm sure paranormal romance lovers would enjoy this, it's not for me.

I am not a fan of romance novels in any form, so I would not have chosen to read this book. The OBC reviewer is obviously a fan and gave a glowing review. I will admit that the author added some twists to the tired shapeshifter storyline, but not enough to interest me. What I read was professionally edited and I found no errors in the first ten pages. While the design of the cover is somewhat extravagant, it does convey the feeling that I am going to read a romance book with paranormal and erotic elements, so it is appropriate considering what the blurb proposes. The official review mentions a strong female character and some variants within the genre. The first ten pages introduce the male character and the conflict appropriately.
The prose is fluid enough for the genre, and I did not detect any grammatical errors or typos. Unfortunately, the novels of this genre are simply not my thing, and although there are elements that differ from other novels of this category, I doubt that it will ever be of my interest. I will not continue reading this book.

At first glance, I would not have picked up this book because the cover looks cheesy. The OBC review was favorable and mentions the plot of this book is original. Although the first ten pages were professionally edited, I felt like the writing did not flow. I liked the concept of the supernatural world coming out of the shadows and the consequences after that. Unfortunately, the plot still does not interest me enough.

I'm not a fan of realistic book covers, and the title for this tome didn't grab my attention either. The synopsis and reviews, including the official OBC one, confirmed that I don't want to read this. Even though I do love paranormal stories, I do NOT like romance novels. Therefore, that cancels out me reading this book. Insofar as the sample, it was very well written and seemed to be professionally edited. While I have no suggestions for changes, I also can't think of anything I particularly liked about the sample; it was all just "okay". The part where Tess was denying her ogling of "John Doe" did make me chuckle though. With that being said, I will not finish reading this book.

This cover page immediately appealed to me as I enjoy paranormal romances. The OnlineBookClub review was very complementary and outlined a story that I would be interested in. I liked the aspect of the mating curse and was curious as to what this entailed. The pages which I read were well written and edited. The first pages set up a good base as to the background of the story, with the paranormal coming out to society, and the main character's struggle with the beast within. I would like to continue reading this book and I have no ideas for improvement.

After reading a sample of, Gray Wolf Mate: League of Gallize Shifters by NYT bestseller Dianna Love, I have decided that I will be purchasing this book today. When I first saw the cover for this book my interest was piqued. I am an avid reader of paranormal romance novels and based on the cover I knew this book would be a good fit for me. If I had not read a sample of this book, I would have picked it up. The author quickly engages my interest in the story with the cover and then solidifies it with the blurb. When the blurb talks about: immortals, mages, and witches I'm excited to pick up this book and start reading. As I began reading the book, my interest was pulled in from the start. Cole is an engaging character, and I immediately want to know more about him. I'm curious and eager to learn more about the Gazille's and who they all are. Based on what I have read this book appears to be professionally edited. This book does have an official OnlineBookClub review. The reviewer speaks highly of this book and quickly engages my interest. I like the strong female characters the reviewer talks about, and I'm eager to read more about the mating curse. I probably would have not read Gray Wolf Mate: League Of Gallize Shifters if it had not been a part of The First Ten program. The Book of the Day review was positive, but I'm not a fan of shifter romance novels. The book seemed like it was professionally edited, but I noticed an error while reading. I love the cover of this book. It gives a sense of what the story is about. After reading the first ten pages, as I suspected, the story centres around a werewolf. Or a type of werewolf. A shifter. That is immediately interesting to me. The story steps out of the norm and creates an entirely different kind of species capable of shifting into certain animals. The werewolf story has been overdone, and I find this premise refreshing. I read the OBC review only after I sampled the first ten pages, and I must admit - it pushed me over the edge. Because of the review, I will be reading this book. I enjoyed the sample, but it wasn't enough to make me want to read further. The review gave me more insight as to where the novel is headed, and I am certainly intrigued. The sample seems to be well edited, I picked up no discernable errors. I will be reading this book further - I look forward to learning where Cole lands up.

I would not have sampled this book without this program because I am not into the wolves concept portrayed in the cover. The OBC review did not convince me to read this book. The storyline reminded me of the wolf pack in the Twilight Series, which I liked but I think too many authors have written similar stories. After I read the sample pages, I thought the book was professionally edited. I liked that Cole thinks about how he used to be in love with a human. I did not like that Cole talks to his wolf side, Gray Wolf, as a separate entity. It confused me. I will not read this book because I am not into its storyline about wolves.

The cover artwork and the title match up perfectly with what this book is all about. I found myself really liking Cole's character in that he shows compassion for the poor and the homeless. When I was first reading that he was a wolf shape shifter, right away, I was thinking this was going to be just like the old werewolf movies where unsuspecting people are jumped on and attacked. But, this was different in that that he is the opposite of that and working on a team of other shifters who are trying to stop the Black River Wolf pack from creating drugs that are not only harming shifters but also humans who are being attacked by shifters. I thought the whole storyline was very creative in how the shifters can communicate telepathically and that Cole can have his body healed by shifting. Added to that, I liked the involvement of Tess who is standing over Cole's bed attending to him but doesn't even know who he is while she is mentally angry with 'the guy' who left her at 19 years of age. And by the end of the sample, he is communicating with her telepathically. The small parts of the story were good as well such as Cole trying to find his shifting bear friend Sammy.

There was just so much to glean from that sample, and I was impressed by how the reader is given so much background information while right smack in the middle of Cole trying to gather information on the Black River Wolf pack.

I did not see any errors, and I think for those who like this genre, they will be most impressed. This is not my genre of choice, but I still have to give the author credit for a job well done.

When I first saw this book, I assumed it was a romance novel, and the Amazon description proved me right. I'm not a romance fan, and while enough plot can override that for me, I was worried from the description that it wouldn't be the case here. As such, I wouldn't have gotten the sample if it wasn't the book of the day.

I was surprised by how much plot there is so far! All ten pages have been focused on building the story, the world of the shifters and the Power Barons (mages), and setting scenes. The writing is also clearly professionally edited, and I liked the little touches like the main character giving a veteran living on the street his jacket and some cash. It was also interesting how wolves aren't the only shifters - bears and even a jaguar have been mentioned also! It hasn't won me over despite not really having anything negative to say about it, but it was better than I expected!

The two main things that make me not want to read this book are the prevalence of shapeshifting stories in the supernatural romance genre, making this one nothing really new, and the fact that I can see this story having far too many elements of toxic masculinity for my tastes - for example, none of the wolf shifters introduced are female. Cole seems like a very dark and gritty character who thinks he needs to be tough and stifle his emotions all the time, as evidenced by how he left Tess, which I find boring, too. I may have sampled this book on my own, as I enjoy some supernatural romance. While the official review is positive and mentions strong female characters, its tone is somewhat juvenile, and I don't find myself trusting it all that much. While it does seem professionally edited, this just isn't the kind of book I'd enjoy; it seems to be too stereotypical overall.

Everything about this book is intriguing to me. Paranormal romance is a genre which I enjoy, so at first glance, Gray Wolf Mate is a book which I would select to read. I read the first ten pages with great expectations, but I was disappointed because the story started off slowly with regards to romance. It was mainly about introducing the preternatural world to the reader, which included government, war, mystery, and of course, the concept of sharing a body with a wolf. From reading the first ten pages, it did not seem like a romance story to me at all, yet the blurb on Amazon described it as one. The girl is not introduced until Chapter 4 (I skimmed ahead of the first ten pages in the Amazon sample to find out if the story actually included romance). I liked the concept of wolf and man being separate, yet existing together in one body, but since this is not enough to capture my interest, I will not buy it. I think this book was edited professionally because I did not spot any errors.

This book’s title and description didn’t interest me. I’m not a fan of paranormal romance featuring shifters. Before sampling, I wasn’t going to read. After sampling, I’m still not interested. The book appears professionally edited. I noticed only one missing word. Aside from the subject matter, the flow of the story didn’t work for me. There’s a lot of backstory loaded up-front. The story would be improved by cutting out the history of shifters being exposed and the little details about the Power Barons. Those things could come later, bringing the reader into the main story sooner. While the OnlineBookClub.org review introduced some unique-sounding elements this book possesses, I’ll still pass on this one.

After reading the first ten pages, I decided not to finish reading the book. The sample wasn't interesting enough for me. While reading the sample, I like how the author used a stream of consciousness to describe the grey wolf's thought vs the main character's, Cole, thoughts. I do like the book cover and title so if I were to sample the book based on just the cover and title, I probably would have chosen to sample it because they both look interesting. While reading the sample, I didn't notice any grammatical errors either. I also read the official OBC review for this book which was helpful in solidifying my decision on taking a pass on this book. There isn't anything I would change anything about this book.

I would have normally at least read the sample since the cover lets up know that it is by a NYT Bestselling author. I wanted to know what makes this author’s writing so interesting to the reader. Unfortunately, the book didn’t live up the standard I had set for it. I am sure that I set a higher standard knowing that it was written by a highly successful author. In the sample that I read, I already saw several comma issues, most of them with compound sentences missing commas. This leads me to believe that this book was not professionally edited.

Since the comma issues were minor, I probably could have overlooked them, but the story’s just not interesting to me. After reading the Official OBC review, the book sounded even less appealing, even though the reviewer gave it 4 out of 4 stars. I’m sure it would be a great read for someone who loves paranormal romances, but I’m not a fan of them. For that reason, I will not be reading the rest of the book.

I love paranormal romance so the cover, title, synopsis, and review had me extremely interested in this book. After reading the sample, I'm even more hooked. The writing is so smooth, it was so easy to just keep reading. I loved that shifters have come out to the world and that they're not all the same. I also love the idea of a mating curse looming over some of them. I didn't find any mistakes, and that just made it easier to keep reading.

I do not like romance or paranormal romance, so I wasn’t interested in this book. Based on the review, I’m glad the author has more creativity than the stock plot romance. The first 10 pages were OK, but nothing caught my interest very much. Cole being not just a shapeshifter, but having a separate wolf being inside him is seriously disturbing and I really don’t like the idea of a book full of characters like that. It seems to be professionally edited so far. I don’t want to read the rest of this book, but it seems like something others might like.

Prior to reading the first 10 pages, this is not a book that would interest me. I'm not generally a fan of paranormal or supernatural romance, which is what I would classify this novel as. The whole shape-shifter angle is not something that catches my attention in the first place. As a result the cover and the blurb both seem cheesy to me and, based on the Amazon page for the book, I can't really take the story seriously. I was surprised to see that Dianna Love is a New York Times bestselling author. That, coupled with the fact that the customer reviews are almost unanimously positive, raised my opinion of the book a bit. After reading the sample, I was pleasantly surprised. The narrative hits the ground running and is fast-paced and suspenseful immediately, which I like. The staccato storytelling style carried me along swiftly. Cavanaugh wasn't too ridiculous to be believable, breaking down my snap judgment of the novel. There's more swearing than I would care for, but it wasn't necessarily overdone or out-of-place for the situation and characters. I liked the nicknames, i.e. Rory was "Hobbes." I was moved by Cavanaugh's compassion for the homeless people he encountered. The balance of action and exposition was perfect, in my opinion. I found myself emotionally invested more or less against my will because I don't care for the specific genre but this book is far better written and more engaging than I anticipated. There is an official Online Book Club review for this novel, which I read, but it didn't particularly affect my to-read-or-not-to-read decision. The thing that left me wanting more was Tess's strange effect on electronics and other devices and apparent gift to heal. This sample definitely seems professionally edited. I only noticed 2 errors that I consider trivial: "half claws" should be hyphenated and, in chapter 4, there is a double period after "accomplished" that should either be a single period or another period should be added to make it in ellipsis. I will not be buying this book today because I anticipate that there's some "heavy-petting," if you'll pardon the wolf joke, and I don't read erotic novels.

I wouldn't have sampled the book on my own because of its genre. I very rarely read paranormal romance nowadays, and they have to be unique at that. I used to read the genre until I grew tired of it. I have read several of about shifters, and this one sounds generic. I understand that the book revolves around a new breed of shifters and that a mating curse is involved. While the latter it original, the sample didn't do carry me into its world. Although I didn't notice any glaring errors, I didn't care much for the writing. I won't buy the book as the storyline does not interest me. The official review didn't sway my decision either way.

The title and cover did not interest me as I am not into reading about werewolves. Because the summary mentioned a love storyline in the first sentence, I was also not interested in the novel. Without this program, I would have skipped this sample. While there were no errors that I noticed, the writing style felt choppy due to many short sentences in a row. There was not enough flow to the narrative for me and there was too much telling and not enough showing. I did appreciate that we were able to learn about Cole rather than the love story that was mentioned in the summary, but the writing style was not smooth enough to pull me in and make me want to read more.

Total ~ 18%

Gray Wolf Mate: League Of Gallize Shifters earned a score of 18%.

In other words, out of the top-level reviewers who read at least the first 10 pages of this book, 18% plan to read the whole book.

IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable.

Over a million books are published each year. Any given person could not even read .0001% of the books out there. This means readers have to be very selective. Even taking the time to look over reviews and blurbs, let alone read samples, is more time than most readers can afford for most books. The First Ten is a powerful focus group that addresses those issues. It creates a helpful tool for authors, publishers, and other readers.
