The First Ten Focus Group Feedback for Getting It Right the Second Time Around
Because Getting It Right the Second Time Around was Book of the Day, some of our most trusted members have carefully looked over the cover, the description, and other aspects of this book as a part of purchase-intent focus group. We then asked each participant in the focus group if they planned to buy and read the book, and why they planned to buy and read the book or not. Their answer to that question and reasons are displayed below. We call this awesome feature The First Ten Focus Group.
Keep in mind, the responses from the members are not reviews. This is purchase-intent focus group which means the participants are people who have NOT yet bought or read your book. A purchase-intent focus group is an important and extremely useful marketing tool for any product, not just books. For other products, you might walk on the street and show people an item in a package and poll them about whether they would buy if or $X or not. These kind of focus groups are one of the ways big marketing companies find the ideal price points for products and test the effectiveness of different packaging. The focus group can help you identify your market so you how to target ads of your book, and it can (but may not) provide you new useful info about your "packaging" (e.g. your book cover, your book synopsis on Amazon, etc.). The point of the focus group comments is to give you information from people who have not bought or read your book about why they plan to buy your book which will help you in marketing the book. These are not reviews or critiques of your book because they are not from people have read the book. This is a marketing tool, not reviews. The trick of book marketing and book advertising is that you have to convince people who have not read your book yet that your book is worth buying and reading. For marketing, it doesn't matter much if people love your book after reading it if you cannot convince potential buyers before they read it that they will love it.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable. This is because we only poll about 20 or so readers, and all readers have to say "no" to almost all books. Over a million books are published each year. Even a very active reader cannot come close to even reading 1% of books out there.
This is also why publishing books is such a tough industry.

I look forward to reading the rest of this book because the sample I read drew me in so quickly I forgot to count the pages. This is a well written and professionally edited romance. I especially loved the brother and sister relationship that felt so genuine. I likely would have read this book based on its genre and blurb even without the first ten program

The title and cover of the book makes it look just a bit too cheesy for my usual taste. However, I really enjoyed the sample. I think the author is a good writer and the story was easy to jump into. I liked the characters and the plot set-up seems pretty interesting. The book appears to be professionally edited and error free.

I recently did this book's review and gave it 4 out of 4 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a clean, fun novel. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good summer read.

This book really seems to be something. I love the premise, and the sample set up everything very well.
The cover fits, and the only thing I really noticed was a missing "the".
Despite this not being my genre I could see being tempted to add it to my list. As it is, the only reason I'm not is the genre.

Getting It Right the Second Time Around by Jennifer Frank
I really enjoyed the sample and based on reading it, I would enjoy finishing the complete book. The author is original in her story. I have been reading a lot of romance books this year and this one was a pleasure. I love the quotes from aunt Elinor. One of my favorites "Women have to be tough cookies to make it. And tough cookies don't crumble" Elinor Hobbs. I also like the cover. The book appears to have been professionally proofed and edited. Well written.

The Amazon blurb intrigued me as I like books about regrets and second chances. However, I didn't care for the cover as it make the book seem like a fluff chick-lit story or even a Young Adult book. The sample pages are well-written in a nice, casual style. The author did a great job of fleshing out the main character and her late aunt right from the start, without telling too much. I also loved the beginning that turned out to be Alison's daydream of her future. Based on the sample, I am interested in reading further.

I was rather interested by this one just from the review and description alone, and the first chapter solidified it. It set up the family rather well and has a good hook that makes me wonder what's coming next. I'll definitely read the rest!

If I hadn't read the first ten pages, I would have still read this book because of the review. Now that I have read the first ten pages, I definitely want to finish it. I want to see what Alison will decide to do. There weren't any grammar errors so far in the story which is awesome. I also really liked the quotes at the beginning of the chapters.

The title, cover, and blurb are eye-catching. Most of the reviews are positive, including the official OBC review. After reading the first ten pages, this may a book that I will continue. I like the fact that it is a clean romance and focuses on getting second chances in life.
Based on what I read, the book does seem to be professionally edited. My favorite aspect of the bit I read was the main character's somewhat nagging aunt. I feel this character is very realistic and therefore makes the read more intriguing. There were a couple of long sentences within these first few pages. Shortening/Splitting them up would be a way to improve this book.

While the cover is good, I would not have normally chosen to read this book because I rarely read romance novels. The sample changed my mind, though. I love Aunt Elinor's personality and found the reading of the will scene especially interesting. This is one book I would like to finish reading. It also appears to be well edited.

I was very skeptical of this book at first glance. From the cover and title, it seemed like it would be one of those cheesy romance books that end up being the same essential story in many different packages. After reading ten pages, though, I found the writing vibrant and the protagonist incredibly likable. In cases like this, I love being wrong! I plan to continue reading the rest of the sample and then locate the book to read more.

I have to say that the cover is very lovely, and based on the blurb it seems like a lovely book. The premise sounded intriguing, but its concept rang a bell. It reminded me of another book that I have read, and loved, "The Life List" by Lori Nelson Spielman. While here the heroine has to go to Law School in order to get her inheritance, there the heroine had to complete her list of life goals to obtain her inheritance; same idea, different execution. The sample started very well and the author did a good job introducing the characters and the concept. However, soon after the heroine has heard the terms of her aunt's will, the book started to slow down. The book is well-written and seems well-edited, but I am not inclined to read it. It is too similar in to the other book I have read for one. Second, it's far too slow-paced for my taste, a thing most of the reviews acknowledged.

Total ~ 83%
Getting It Right the Second Time Around earned a score of 83%.
In other words, out of the top-level reviewers who read at least the first 10 pages of this book, 83% plan to read the whole book.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable.
Over a million books are published each year. Any given person could not even read .0001% of the books out there. This means readers have to be very selective. Even taking the time to look over reviews and blurbs, let alone read samples, is more time than most readers can afford for most books. The First Ten is a powerful focus group that addresses those issues. It creates a helpful tool for authors, publishers, and other readers.
