No I don't think I lend to others, they might be careless with it or may never return it. But if it's necessary I do lend but I'm always worried something will happen to the book.

I have mixed feelings about lending my books to others. It's because I've had experiences where people loved books so much that they didn't return them, and others were quite careless, leaving my books with dog-eared pages, tears, and coffee stains. However, if I genuinely like the person and feel a connection, I do want to share my books, especially if I have strong feelings about them, whether those feelings are positive or negative.

I only lend my books to close friends. Even then, I want to be sure they are interested in that title.

For the sake of "sharing is caring" saying I do lend my books to friends but with the condition that they handle it with care.

I really do not like lending out books to others. You know what happens - once you lend out a book, you're more likely to never see it again!

I have no qualms with lending books to others, mostly because after I am done with it, I have moved on to another! I rarely get overly attached to a book, and I've stopped buying "beautiful" books. I'm such a voracious reader, it's become a question of economy!

How do you receive a book back in that condition and not tell your neighbor that you would like them to replace it? I cannot believe the audacity of some people! I'm sorry that happened to you. I do not like lending books out because I find that people are not as careful with someone else's property. Also, they "forget" to give the book back at times. I've had to replace a number of books that I had lent out, so I no longer like to let others borrow my books. I also do not like borrowing books from people because I may take too long to read the book (life happens). So, if someone wants to borrow something I'm reading, I happily buy them their own copy and gift it to them.

I've learned my lesson. No lending books anymore. People don't have the same love as you.

It depends on the nature of the person. If I believe that person to be trustworthy, then I'll loan them a book because I think that they'll be able to handle the donation. If not, then I'll refuse to loan them the book and explain to them why that's the case. I have few people in the former category, but my books have been in perfect condition because of it, so I'm not loathe to complain.

No.

But if I have to, for some reason, I note the title(s) of the book(s) so I don't forget to get them back.

Better avoid talking about books to people who do not have a personal library. Those people won't understand.

No, I don’t. Mostly because a lot of them forget to return them or don’t take care of the books. I end up getting my book back with torn pages or crumpled pages sometimes. When they forget, I find it difficult to ask them to return because they might not receive it well. So, I usually make sure that the person I lend my books to maintains a book collection as well. They usually give them back in good condition. Before, I used to forget the books I lent. Later on, I started writing them down to keep count.
