Considering that this was one of the Book of the Month picks, and it's gotten a lot of visibility on this site, it took me a little while to get around to starting it.

The first thing that I wondered after picking this book up is, considering all the television ads I've seen regarding African poverty, hunger, and water conditions over my 39 years, how is it that this has never come up?
