I usually try to either read the summary or get a recommendation first, because I've gotten a few surprises by not doing it. I've gone into a book expecting one thing based on the title and cover art, but ended up reading a totally different story than I thought I was getting! Sometimes it's welcome but sometimes I'm really not in the mood for a different genre.

I will usually read a summary before I read the book, at least right before, because it helps me to get oriented with the world and who the main characters are meant to be. However, I have bought plenty of books without reading a summary either because somebody recommended it to me or because I thought the cover was aesthetically pleasing. I’ve tried to stop doing this, though, because i never end up liking the book.

Yeah, sometimes the cover and title of the book fascinates me so much, that I start reading book without reading the summary.

I think most of the time I end up reading books without reading the summary.
The times I read the summary are if I am worried about the content on the inside.

Sometimes I have forgotten that a summary existed on the back of the book haha. So yes, i have read a book without reading a summary first.

Yes, I have definitely picked up a book based solely on its cover or recommendations without first reading the summary. I find that diving straight into the story can make the experience more mysterious and engaging. I want to give my own summary then compare it to the one given by the author :)

Oh gosh! I can't even remember how many books I have read without reading the summary first. Though they made me disappointed sometimes too. But most of them were worth the reading. When I started reading books as a hobby, I never read the summaries. I didn't even knew that you can do that. ;)

Always! That's how I prefer to read a book because otherwise it spoils the mystery and fun.
But for selecting a book for review, it is mandatory to read it's description first, so I follow the rule.

Though I read the blurb and the reviews before I buy a book, I have occasionally skipped the summary, especially when it comes to reading crime fiction, to avoid spoilers.

I always look for the genre and may skim the summary but I go in blind to most books, this isn’t intentional and just happens from me being busy

I always read the summary of a book before reading the book. They tell me what I am to expect from the book and the book's genre
