I prefer 1984. I felt it was more intriguing and the whole "Big Brother" is watching you thing. The ending was also such an amazing high. Lord of the flies is also a good book though.

Both books are good in their own way. But I prefer the Lord of the Flies. This book is like two different books, external and internal. The external book tells us about boys who have to survive on a desert island. The inner tells us how fear and the absence of knowledge bring cruel tyranny. This is a unique book.

Lord of the Flies connected with me when I hated reading books. Especially books for a class.

Now as a teacher I always try to pick books that will resonate with my reluctant readers. What will your students prefer, gear it towards your learners, not your preference.

1984 has so many great lessons and situations that eerily apply to present day. I hardly remember any of the books that I was required to read in school, but 1984 always stuck out to me. I remember it leading to a lot of good discussions (inside and outside of the classroom), so I assume the topic of privacy and free-will resonates with teenagers on the verge of adulthood.

Lord of the Flies always kept me engaged when I read it. It was my favorite book in high school, and I really enjoyed the adventure.

It is the same for me. The story of Lord of the Flies is very engaging, while 1984 has more politics.

I read Lord of the Flies in 6th grade for class and later watched the movie to compare the two; for class. It was one of those rare finds in school when we actually got books we enjoyed rather than disliked. LoF has many layers to it and it pretty much makes you wonder how the adults would handle the situation when they learn of what the boys went through.

Haven't read 1984 but got an intro from a fellow reader.

Brave New World is a personal favorite of mine! I recommend it!
