It can expand your vocabulary, knowledge. Makes you interested about things. Gives you an inside look into certain situations. And it is just fun.

For everything; it is like an air for me, it is even unlikely hard to gain faith and religion unless we read, perhaps in different ways.

I agree. But importantly, after you read something, always think about HOW TO APPLY it. Otherwise, it is just simply adding you knowledge only. Knowledge without application is useless.

Reading gives exposure to a lot of information on diverse subjects. It gives room to learn, explore, discover, and even apply the knowledge gathered. It enables the ability to make informed decisions and have a wide view of the consequences that will follow those decisions. Generally, quality reading that has specific goals tied to them, produces growth.

I agree with the 8 reasons.
And I would add that for me reading is a need. If I had the choice between watching TV, playing video games or reading I would read. You may think I'm a fool but when I enter a library it's almost like a shrine (I don't trust in any Gods) because it carries the knowledge from generations to generations.
When I was in University I was always at the library since I could find many things I couldn't find on the internet. One day I taught myself it would be very interresting to read the whole library, of course I failed.

It's given me a large vocabulary and knowledge base in general, as well as making me a better writer (seeing proper and interesting style so often really helps a lot!). And it's a great hobby to have when I'm working a 12-hour shift in security.

One of my friends asked me a question a few years back.

"Besides enriching our vocabulary, how does reading books help us?"

I'd been a reader even before I reached my teens, but I couldn't give her an answer. However, the question has been constantly on my mind since then.

Fast forward 3-4 years, and I say, "I credit my writing career to my love for reading. Had I not read constantly all these years, I wouldn't have dared step into the world of writing and pursue an unconventional career."

The more you read, the more you realize how much you don't know, so you can be wiser in sharing your knowledge and appreciating others' knowledge.

I believe reading is super important. Not just for improving a persons vocabulary skills but also as an insight to different view points in the world. As an escape from reality to calm ones mind down from time to time.
