I just finished reading Shanghai'd by Curtis Stephen Burdick and rate it 4 out of 5. It is the first book in a series featuring the protagonist Joshua Cabot and I am looking forward to reading future volumes.

I just finished Deceptive Calm by Patricia Skipper. In fact, it was my first book review for this website. I gave the book 2 out of 4 stars because of the abrupt ending. There were a few grammatical errors such as misspelling Betsy Ross's name, but for the most part it is a great read. I am not a fan of historical novels, but this one was set during the Civil Rights era and I found it very interesting.

The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black (a reread actually), it was a 5/5 for sure. I loved the Cruel Prince trilogy (this one was the third one) the first time I read it, I read all three books in like two weeks (It was during June and I had all my uni finals so it was a bit of a struggle, I had to give my mom my books so she could hide them from me because otherwise I just couldn't contain myself and kept reading for hours!). I usually don't really like the FMCs in fantasy books, but I absolutely adored Jude from the beginning. The book also kept me on my toes constantly with all the plot twists!! It's a great read.

I recently finished "Deceptive Calm" and gave it a 1 out of 4 stars. The abrupt ending factored in for me too. I missed the Betsy Ross typo but did find a misspelling of Martin Luther Kings's name.

I recently read "It's Up to You: Ten Little Ways We Can Bring About Big Change" by John Kasich, former Governor of Ohio. I found this book to be an outstanding read and compared to other political books it definitely deserves a rating of 5 out of 5-stars. I highly recommend it. @Mrlefty0706

I recently read "Mr. You" a memoir written by Mary-Louise Parker, a very successful actress. The book is a series of letters that are factual and humorous. I really enjoyed this book, rated it 5-stars and I highly recommend it. @Mrlefty0706

I recently read "Logic Made Easy: How to Know When Language Deceives You" by Deborah J. Bennett and this is a book that requires readers to concentrate on what they are reading and they may need to re-read it for it to sink in. The easiest chapter to read was the Introduction. Since it is an excellent book but difficult to read I rate it 4 out of 5-stars. @Mrlefty0706

I just started binge reading the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. I finished reading Killing Floor and the book was excellent, I finished it in less than 3 days and it definitely deserves a 5 out of 5-star rating.

I just finished two 5 star books: Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak and Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. Hidden Pictures is a horror/thriller/mystery about a young woman named Mallory with a history of drug abuse starting a new job as a live-in nanny for a family of a 5 year old boy named Teddy. Teddy likes to draw pictures and has an imaginary friend. But Mallory starts to suspect that Teddy's imaginary friend isn't imaginary, but the spirit/ghost of a woman who may have been murdered in the guest cottage that Mallory is now living in. Teddy's pictures seem to reflect the story of a woman who was killed and buried, and then the ghost seems to be drawing pictures using Teddy. This was a very suspenseful book, keeping me on the edge of my seat the whole time wondering what was going to happen next and what the truth was. I loved that this book also included pictures so you can see what Teddy draws.

Where the Crawdads Sing also had some mystery, but was more of a narrative of a woman named Kya who grew up in the marsh lands in the 1950s-1960s. This story was interesting because the chapters would switch from the present time of 1969 when a man was found dead, and Kya's life leading up to that point. The sheriff and townsfolk believe the man had been killed, and many suspect the "Marsh Girl" did it. The chapters of Kya's life leading up to the potential murder show how hard of life she had and how she had to learn how to survive on her own. The New York Times quote on the cover of the book stating the books is "at once a murder mystery, a coming-of-age narrative, and a celebration of nature" is spot-on with what the book entails. I was engrossed in Kya's life and loved the nature aspects. The story started out a little slow and not exactly what I was expecting with the description of a murder mystery, but I was pleasantly surprised.

“The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown. I give it 2/5 stars because I can only read about rowing so much. I enjoyed the historical significance of the biographical sports drama, but it was boring and repetitive at times.
