Only of a book that takes ages for the foreword to end.

Hilarious music references aside, not really, but obviously when I was studying at university I became quite adept at reading for the salient details and skipping things I didn't need.

I never used to, but I do now, because the industry standards have totally gone down the drain. Since almost no one is writing quality prose anymore, I end up just reading for the story, which I can easily follow without reading every tortured, unedited word.

Me too! I read every words (sometimes even the miscellaneous details like when it was published n all, haha) and if I feel the need to skip the book, probably because the book is either too irresistible or too bad

The only time I have been guilty of this is when I was in college  When your reading assignments alone can total around 500-600 pages a week you tend to learn how to do thoughtful skimming.

I never skip anything, I am too afraid that I'll miss something important.

If I start to read miscellaneous details then I am putting the book down. A very rare occurrence but I will. Hence why I don't read random romance novels, too much fluff to swim through.

No way. Not sure what would motivate a person to do this unless it's non-fiction or text book. Part of the joy of completing a read is reading the whole thing. Guess it satisfies an OCD urge of sorts!

No NEVER! There will be times when I zone out and even if I did it for a few pages I will go back and reread them! I am kind of a perfectionist though and can't claim to have read a book unless I read the whole thing. It often makes me take a long time on some of the slower classics but I always have a sense of accomplishment after.

I only skip pages if the book is boring.

No way! I absolutely will never skip pages. You are only cheating yourself when you do that. You may miss something important to the story.

I have never skipped words, I feel that sometimes authors will drag on a description and I might skip a paragraph every now and then, but never a full page. I feel like there is too much to lose and you won't get the full story if you do.

Skipping pages is the sign of a boring read which was probable poorly written. I wouldn't do that to get paid. Can you ever back out of a review?

You can back out of a review. You're required to provide a reason you chose not to finish it, which is passed on to the author as constructive criticism. It will also be noted in your membership stats, so (although I've done it once myself) it probably wouldn't be wise to back out too often, or without a really good reason,

I skipped a lot when I read the "Hunger Games..." That kind of stuff may be thrilling in a movie... But in a book it's just... boring...

-- 10 Jun 2014, 19:00 --

I haven't backed out of a book yet. I've tried a wide variety of books. I'm really trying to find one that just pops out as BRILLIANT! Alas... And that's all I'll write on the matter... Alas... :|

If you feel like skipping a page, skip the book. De Quincey once said the sign of good writing is when the reader feels he has to underline everything.
