Like everyone here said, I mostly use Goodreads to keep track of the books I add to my shelves and to review those I read. I've never participated in the forums; I prefer OBC! :D And I'm REALLY excited about the app!! :banana-dance: It would make me use the forum more often since I don't always have my laptop with me! :D

Goodreads is a yay...for sure. The best way to make a good list of books that I want to read or have read. The only fear is that it will go away:))) That is why I constantly save the book list and I also use RecordBooks app on my iPhone as a secondary backup.

Like most of the people that have answered this post... I mostly use Goodreads to keep track of the books I read or want to read and I usually read the reviews of a book I've just read in order to see what other people thought about that book.

I definitely think Goodreads is helpful to gauge what kind of books I want to read. There are some really good reviews that let me know if it's a waste of time for me to read a book or if it's something I really want to read.

Yay! Like everyone else, I love to use it to keep track what I've read and want to read. I'll look at the overall rating before I read a book, but I usually don't put much stock into that. I like to read a few reviews after I've finished the book to help me rein in all my thoughts on what I've just read and help me come to a fair rating.

I use Goodreads only to keep track of my books. But I have found the book suggestions and the book lists very helpful in finding new books for my daughters (9 and 8) who are both avid readers. I don't read a lot of Young Adult genre so Goodreads is great for finding them new reads.

Freida Livery wrote:I've been pretty active on Goodreads. I basically use it to catalog my ever growing list of books. Plus I keep track of a few of my favorite author's blogs. I don't participate too much in the forums though. I personally think it has gotten too big.
I used to have an account on Goodreads, but I agree with Freida Livery that they seem to have gotten too big, causing the content to feel crowded and slightly disjointed.

I much prefer OBC's platform. 8) Definitely looking forward to the app!

Good and the reviews are usually fair and responsible. Seen some malicious ones on there though and some internet talk I read says it's almost impossible to live it down if someone just wants to take a jab.

That makes it hard to decide if a book is worth reading or deserves its bad press. They say the same about Amazon though, and I tend to pick up freebies and dollar-deals, so disappointment is painless.

There are aspects of both GoodReads and OBC that I like. Goodreads is a little more intuitive to navigate. This site has more of a community feel to it to me, from what I can tell so far. I'm still relatively new here. I don't think I would ever ditch one for the other. They are both valuable tools to help discover amazing new reads!

I don't really use the forums on Goodreads, but it's part of my process to post all my reviews on there.

I am not a fan of Goodreads. I think this is so because I haven't fully explored it as of yet! :tiphat:

Goodreads gets a definite "yay" from me. I belong to several reading groups that are specific to the genres I enjoy and get great recommendations from fellow members.

Sarah Penney wrote:I don't really use Goodreads for the forums. I use it more to keep track of what books I want to read as well as to post any reviews that aren't connected with this site. The different lists are also really helpful. I've found a lot of good books just by looking around that site and then heading over to Amazon.
It is a nice resource to use when searching for my next author or series.

I haven't every really used Goodreads. Sometimes I'll google a book and then I will see a review about it on Goodreads, but that probably as far as it goes.
