The advantage of reading

it makes life more enjoyable,and I can always get lost in a good book,I couldn't imagine not having a good book to read.

Reading is great, but I am a poet and I think poetry should be recited and performed well as a performance art. But you do need to read it in the first place - so reading is good!!! I agree.

And we must not forget that today many many people, especially children, read from their computer screens, from their vdu screens in their classrooms, ipads, E-book readers etc - and I can get most of my answers for research for my educational poems, such as today, from the internet. I use the internet for lots of information which goes into poetry for children's classrooms and I am able to direct children to websites so that they can do further research via links. I've just been writing about the value of trees in our lives in a poem, as this week is National Tree Week. Did you know this? So reading from the internet is excellent and we don't have to cut down trees to make paper for E-books etc.

The reason I started reading is when my wife shops all day and I had to be with her. Thank God for books otherwise I would be bored to death waiting for my wife to finish her shopping.

I know that if I didn't read a lot I would never have passed my exams as I was sick in hospital and missed most of the years lessons. Knowledge from books got me over the line

The fact that, despite decades of movies, TV, and, recently, even YouTube, reading is still popular and books are still selling in the millions (best sellers I mean), says something about our innate need to read. The Internet and e-mail restored the written word to everyday use. Reading enables you to absorb information at your own pace, and to create your own imagery. It will never go away.
