No more than 2. I would not be able to keep up and stick with the plots. I like to absorb the books I read.

I think 2 is my max.

Usually it's three. But when I'm in university, like right now, it's one, or maximum two...

I normally read two to three books at a time. I don't usually get confused because the books are different enough to keep a clear idea of what each one is about.

I sometimes read two books at a time. Since I go through books so quickly, I set a 100 page daily cap on each book. Sometimes I'll reach that cap and still want to read, so I'll go on to the next book and hit that cap.

I read a lot from book apps off my phone. Because of this, I read books as they are being written by the authors. Therefore, I may sometimes have as many as 7-12 books I am reading at the same time as I wait for more chapters to be uploaded. I find it's the only way to pace myself and enjoy the plot of a book instead of reading like a madwoman to the finish line. At minimum, I will always have 2 books simply because I try to read my bible every day.

I usually just read one book at a time. I like to concentrate in the book and I feel that if I started to read another, I might get distracted and stop reading the first one I started.

2 or 3. One is physics/maths related, one is neuroscience (or medical science in general, occasionally), and lastly one is fiction- typically science fiction (I'm a big fan of Asimov's s.f.).
I wish I could read 5+ books at any one time, each covering a different area of scientific writing. Unfortunately I'm not anything beyond a human and I'm adjusted to a life of long days at college with homework and a social life to resuscitate every other week. At twenty five or so I hope to be able to pull it off...at least for a few years.

I can only read one at a time now. So difficult trying to juggle different books at same time... one book tends to bleed into the other and I begin to get confused.

I only read one book at a time. I like to create a picture in my mind for every sentence I read. And it's like I'm watching a movie, except that I can almost feel how the characters feel and what's going on. Therefore, I finish one book at a time, like unraveling a story.

I usually read two to three books at once.
That is because my attention span is short, and I cannot just read and focus on one book.

Personally, I get distracted if I read more than 2 at once--it depends on how engrossing the story line is, if it requires a lot of concentration, if it is "light" reading versus "deep" reading, etc. I think it depends on the preference of the reader, as well as their opinion on the current book they are reading--if they aren't a huge fan, and want to find something more interesting, then I don't see anything distracting about that.

I've done it a couple of times. But 2 books is the maximum at that point. Although I have to admit, I have an app on my mobile phone that contains all the 7 Harry Potter books for free just on your mobile phone screen. I can pick that up anytime no matter what book I'm reading. But in my opinion, I have read that book so many times I can memorise it so it isn't really hard to do so plot-wise.

I generally tend to stick to one book at a time because I like to give it my full attention, but there are times when the book doesn’t meet my expectations and so I might start another one before finishing the first. This always makes it harder for me to finish the first book, so there are definitely a few that are sitting on my e-reader that I still need to get back to.
