The Wronged Sons by John Marrs
Never heard of him before, but just could not put this eBook down. A great mystery/ family saga type of thing with loads of twists and turns so you never quite knew where you stood until almost right at the end.
I love being able to guess the ending of a book, yet I'm disappointed when I'm right - I know, I'm weird! But I had no idea what was going to happen in the end of this.
It's about a husband who leaves his wife and family and just vanishes from their lives. Then he turns up 25 years later to tell them why. But it's told from the wife and the husband's separate points of views, and each chapter ends with him slowly explaining why he left.
I was even 15 minutes later picking my daughter up from her friend's house because I wanted to get to the end. Sorry Lucy! 5/5

The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty. I found it really difficult to put down and read it in one day. The story sucked me in right away and kept its momentum throughout. 5/5 stars for me.

Miss Pettigrew lives for a day. by Winifred Watson.
Written in 1938... a light, quirky, funny read.
Rated 7/10.

About a middle aged spinster in the wrong place but at the exactly right time. :D
There are years that ask questions and years that answer. Zora Neale Hurston.

The last book I read was the Hunger Games and thoroughly enjoyed, very different type of book I have read and would recommend it. I am looking forward to seeing the film and interesting to see how much they keep in and cut out and change.

The last book I read was Another Little Piece, by Kate Karyus Quinn, and I loved it! There have been many reviews of this book calling it confusing, which I partly understand, though I didn't get confused. I rate it 9 out of 10!

The last book I read was Crossed. It didn't reach my expectations. It's the second book of the trilogy series:Matched. This book was absolutely boring; there was no plot!

Last book I read was The Sign of The Four by Arthur Conan Doyle, the second of the Sherlock Holmes stories.
It was good certainly good, though a bit weak compared to his other stuff. 7/10

I started Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore this morning and it just isn't grabbing me. I will push through but I am not certain if it will be worth remembering yet.

I just returned from a 8 day vacation - Outer Banks of North Carolina. Beach town, very laid back and figured I would get a lot of reading done. It even rained for most of the vacation! But, I was still trying to finish this book that I started early in September as a book buddy read! It was The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley. Verrry slow read involving time travel but don't think it was done too well. I give it 3*/5 and that is being generous. So happy to be finished with this one! I believe my book buddy gave up on it entirely.

Still Life by Louise Penny. This is a murder mystery with Inspector Gamache from Montreal as the principal character. When 76 year old Jane Neal was found dead with an arrow piercing her heart, Inspector Gamache was called in to investigate. They go to the town of Three Pines where the killing took place to investigate to see If it's a deliberate murder or an accident caused by a hunter. Here they meet the townspeople who inhabit the village and we learn all of their stories. it's a very interesting book and the first in the Inspector Gamache series. 5/5

I just finished The Fire Witness by Lars Kepler. There has been a bloody murder at a home for wayward girls. One of the girls escaped leaving a bloody hammer under the pillow of a bed. She steals a car with a child in the back seat of which she s unaware. A medium is seeing visions of a ghost and calls the police, but Joona Linna is the only one who responds. This a a book you won't be able to put down. It is definitely 5*

Just finished Buddenbrooks by Thomas Mann (recommended by DATo)
A fascinating inter-generational detailing of the decline of a once prosperous merchant family in northern Germany beginning in the early 1800s. Most books I've read from this period are either focused on aristocratic personages or poverty stricken individuals so it was interesting to read the motivations and drives of a merchant family.
As DATo had warned there are a host of characters, immediate and extended family and business relationships to keep in mind but oddly enough I didn't find any difficulty keeping track of them all.
I accept this book would not be to everyones taste but I enjoyed it a lot.
