I've got a lot of non-fiction to read on various topics, and a ton of graphic novels I've been stockpiling. *lol*
If the plot appeals to me, I'll read just about anything.

Historical fiction is STILL fiction, why not read nonfiction? As somebody once said "Truth is stranger than fiction" - and it is, also it's more interesting I think.Gannon wrote:I will quite literally read anything if it is enjoyable, but my favourite genre by a country mile is Historical Fiction. I also believe it is one of the hardest genres to write. Of course the author wants to get all his facts right, and sometimes researching takes an incredible amount of time and work.

Hi there guytwo. I do read alot of non-fiction as well as fiction. With non-fiction books, I like books on Ancient Rome, the napoleonic era, the crusades and world war 2 to name my favourites. I also love biographies on generals and leaders from throughout these time periods.guytwo wrote:Historical fiction is STILL fiction, why not read nonfiction? Its interesting because at the moment I am reading "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote. It is classed as a non-fiction novel. It is written in a novel format but it is non-fiction and meticulously researched. I would love to know where you stand on books such as this. Would you read it? Have you read it?
Everybody is different and has different tastes. My father was a voracious reader who never read fiction either. If I recommended him a book that was fiction he would not even look at it.
I totally agree with you that sometimes non-fiction books can be stranger than fiction. "In Cold Blood" reads like something that has come from a fictional writer's mind and yet it is all true and much more enjoyable than some fictional crime books I have read.
At the end of the day however I do enjoy fiction better than non-fiction and historical fiction is my favourite genre. I respect your opinion that non-fiction is more interesting than fiction, but I do think that is also a very generalised statement. Imho, realistically there are going to be some non-fiction books more interesting than some fiction books and vice a versa.
We are all so different and we all have different likes and tastes. I think everybody should just read what they enjoy.
