I always loved reading but there were years that because of school and university I couldn't be a full-time bookworm.
But then my dad passed away and I found solace between the pages of the books. During a time when nobody even tried to understand what I was going through the books I chose to read helped me heal. It took time but yeah, it worked. Ever since, there has not a single gone by that I haven't read at least a page from a book. They keep me sane.
But other than that, I leaned a lot from these books and have experienced a thousand lives through them... I travelled through time and space by reading them without moving from my bed. So, yeah, I love books for so many reasons...

I feel like I have a different life when I read, my imagination runs wild and I imagine myself as my favourite character.

Reading is my form of escape from reality.

I love reading. I love to read out loud even more. It entertains me. I like to read in different accents or speak differently for each character. Reading out loud is far too fun for me.

I love getting lost in the world created by the author. It is an escape, I know that, but a well written book can take me away from all my troubles.

I love the escape that books provide. For a few hours when you're reading, you can leave your world behind and explore something new. Something new that you'd never be able to otherwise experience.

:techie-studyinggray: I love reading paranormal ebooks. I like how they catch the reader and not let them go until the whole book is read.

I would say the one reason as to why I like reading that overpowers all the others is that I enjoy the feeling of getting lost into a book and really just being transported from your world into the book. The books that have me connected on an emotional level are by far my favorite.

I've been reading since I was 10 years old. Mostly because I loved the feeling of it, I felt it as if I was inside the stories in the books.
Reading can give me a vivid sensation of adventure or an open door for thoughts that someone had ages ago, some of them not that different from my own. That's why I like it. :)

I enjoy reading for the journey. I like seeing the thoughts of character’s I relate to. So, in a way, their stories might prepare me for real world problems that might befall me as a result of thinking like the protagonist of such a story on the odd chance that their crisis came to define my life. I also enjoy the rhythm of a well-paced book. It can be poetic at times. And I end on the note, that it’s easier to learn new words from prose than watching a movie without subtitles. It makes for a great boost for my Scrabble game! Reading is a hobby with many gifts.

I like reading because I like exercising my imagination. I love making the pictures in my mind about a character or scene. On the educational side, if the book is professionally edited, I learn so much about scene structure and character development.

I like reading because of the escape. Where ever life takes me, reading a book takes me into some other time and place. It sets me on an adventure to fight the fire breathing dragon, or to solve the cold case murder from 30 years ago. Whatever the story is, reading has always been my addiction.

When I started reading it was not by choice my parents wanted me to have a better vocabulary and also write better stories. After reading the secret garden, books became an escape and a way to relax for me.

That's a good, thought-provoking question. My parents read to me from a young age. There's probably some level of comfort and security I associate with reading. Reading requires sustained attention and use of imagination, which I find lacking in other forms of entertainment. I enjoy the escape, as other posters have pointed out. And I enjoy the written word, particularly in the hands of a master craftsperson.

I like reading to improve my language skills and at the same time to get exposure to the unknown world or rather keep myself occupied in a meaningful way.
