Re: Why do you like reading?
Personally, I read because I can escape in a way. One minute I can be having a really rough day and the next I can be in victorian England.
Reading is a way for people to cope with hardships in life because they can find themselves in the characters. People can see a situation that they might be in and see how the characters deal with it.
Reading is a way for people to learn about themselves along with learning more about the world.

Reading just takes you away from your own stresses and can transform your mood. Being captivated by characters and ideas that you would never have imagined is absolutely thrilling to me. Also going into a really good bookstore or library is magical, I could spend hours just looking through the shelves!

This reminds me of what my English teacher in high school used to say about why she enjoyed books so much. She shared with us that she had a difficult home. Reading transported her to a different world in a matter of minutes, which she appreciated.sleepydumpling wrote: ↑19 Aug 2007, 21:58 I read for two reasons...
1) To escape. I love being transported to another time or place. I love that feeling of seeing or doing or experiencing something different.
2) To see things from a different perspective. I love a book that makes me think and shows me things from other people's perspectives.

I love reading because it makes me feel free. Limitless. Cleverer and cleverer as I discover new things. Brave. Special. Unique. Part of a community. Magical. Alive.
