Re: Why do you like reading?

I consider myself a very lucky person. I have traveled the world and seen things most people can only dream about. Everywhere I have traveled I always see people reading. I think this is because reading can take us to places and show us things we could never experience in real life. It lets us live through someone else imagination. I also find that reading helps me to learn a craft I dearly love and that is writing. Reading a good book is one of life's great pleasures it open a whole new world to the possibilities of mankind. Look at some of the past authors who wrote about space travel and yes we finally did have space travel who knows where we might be taken in the future by writers and good books

I love reading because 100 people could read the same exact book and interpret it in 100 different ways. Movies aren't like that. I like movies but with movies there is a big degree of "what you see is what you get". There usually isn't as much room for interpretation. For that reason I actually think directing a movie is probably harder than writing a book.

I like to read to learn too. My boyfriend listens to podcasts all the time but I can't really listen to them. I don't know why, I just can't seem to pay attention to audio stuff. I think it's cause my mind wander too much. I'll hear and idea and then connect it to something else and so on and so on until I realize that several minutes have gone by and I wasn't listening. I do that when reading as well but it's easier to pinpoint exactly where I left off.

I've always been introverted. At an early age, I discovered the infinite universe of books. I always chose the thickest paperback I could find in a bookstore when my Dad would let me get one.

I love reading because it lets me travel the world and learn culture and life lessons at my own pace. Unlike movies, I can put a book down to have dinner or do homework then get instantly transported to a new world when I pick it up again.

It became my refuge when I needed to cheer up, but it was also the only thing I wanted to do when my spirits were high. Reading is my life.

I like reading because it is relaxing and allows me to forget about any problems etc. going on in my life. Also, I get to live vicariously through the characters in the books. :!: :!: :!:

I love to read mainly because it is an escape for me. I don't have to think about the stress in my life and I can escape to my own little movie in my head. The imagination can run wild of what you picture is happening as a reader. I have always been a passionate reader and I hope that my children will be as passionate as I am.

I love to read for a lot of reasons. Like many other people have said, it is an escape from reality. I have two active young boys who keep me jumping and reading is a great way to wind down after a long day. I also love to read about places and things that I have never seen. It makes me dream about visiting them someday. I also love the feeling of getting lost in a book and being unable to put it down. Reading a great book gives me great satisfaction.

I love to read because it takes me beyond the world I know, whether through non fictional growth, or fictional escape!

I like to read for several reasons. Here are just a couple:

1. relaxes me from stressful days
2. learn new words (expands my vocabulary)
3. enlightens me (educates, inspires, motivates etc)
4. makes "waiting" time pass by quickly (waiting in lines at dmv, grocery stores etc.)
and 5. makes me happy :)

The way I see it I feel as though throughout our lives can be in a way vaguely described as driving down a everlasting highway. As we go through all our experiences in life new exits to new highways open up that we can now join a new highway because we now know that our past way of living is not the only way of living. When I read a book I feel like a new exit to my highway almost is always opened because the way I see things can never be the same.

Your analogy remined me of the Robert Frost poem ..

Its a break from reality. I don't have to worry about anything when I'm reading. Also, I prefer reading over watching tv or the movies because I can picture the characters the way I want them to look and sound.

I love reading fantasy fiction books, because it is a way to escape reality and live in someone else's fantasy. I get so absorbed in reading that time flies by i don't even realize it. I wish i would have known this way back in my younger years so i could of went to college and got a career in it. I didn't get into reading until i was 25-26 and i read 100-150 books a year easy. That is working with a full time job as well.
Life can be hard, but reading is one way to escape it all and that is why i love it..
