Yeah, I think it's a good idea for kids to read. Reading can be fun, and it helps you learn about new things and use your imagination. Plus, there are so many cool books out there that can take you on awesome adventures without leaving your room.

While learning to read is mandatory, if my children don't like to read past a certain point- say, High School- I do believe that there's a limit to what you can or should make your kids do. I won't force the situation on them, though I believe a lack of interest in reading- expanding your mind- is saddening and slightly detrimental in the long run.

It's great for children to read, but I want them to try a lot of different hobbies so they can discover their own "thing". Whatever it is they are passionate about.

I think it's all about how you introduce reading to kids. My whole family received books every Christmas Eve as gifts and then would spend the evening reading. Watching my mother read made me want to read. I also intend to start reading to my future children when they are infants.

That's one of my biggest concerns, what if they don't like reading. But I think with time I can figure out some key points and would love to make them read at least some, so they can develop their brains.

If I had kids I would start reading to them early so they grow up knowing how enjoyable reading is. My mom read to me from a young age and I just grew up loving books. Nobody ever had to talk me into trying it out because I already knew how great it was.

Ya definitely! My parents are the reason I started reading in the first place. Plus reading builds your vocabulary and conversational skills and is also a great way to learn new things and decompress after a long day. It is a great habit in my opiny

I'll tell them about the fun of reading but if they think that it is not fun for them I won't force them I will force them to try it if they don't like it even after trying it then there is no use forcing them to do what you want them to do.

Not really, I might tell them the pleasure of reading, they have their choice to make. I might even recommend books if they are interested but not forcing or obligate it.

My kids (9, 7, 5 and 3 mo) have grown up in a house full of books. I read to them as tiny babies, have taught them how to read. I let them see me read and make sure they know the importance of a good book. We purchase books, and we head to the library. My 9 year old is now a reading machine and it's one of his favorite hobbies! It is so very important for their future to read, and do so with joy!

When I have kids I'm going to try to get them to love reading as much as I do, but I won't force the issue. They'll have to learn to read of course, but they don't have to read super often if they don't want to. I'll probably start by adding a reward for after reading like extra computer time or extra outside time, but again I'm not going to force them to read.

My kids are little and I don’t make them read, but I read to them a lot and play audiobooks I know they’ll enjoy and they are becoming little readers all on their own but I never want it to be a chore

Absolutely. I mean I understand that if I force it on them, they could dislike it but there are other ways to make reading interesting and fun for them.

Yes I would. Reading to me is very important and that is why it is the first thing I would teach my child
