well, if I am reading a book that I am not fond of, I wouldn't to continue as much as possible, but if it is so bad that I have to drop the book, I do not feel any remorse or guilt whatsoever, I have given it my best shot.

I do not usually feel guilty if I don't finish a book. If someone tells me the book gets better or if it is a classic or if I picked it up to be a quick and light read, I might finish reading it anyway; but what I tend to look for in books relates to atmosphere, voice, and style, so I can usually tell by the first chapter if I want to continue reading it or look for something different.

I only feel guilty when I borrow a book from a friend, so I will try really hard to finish it.

I used to, but then I realized that life is too short to worry about not comitting to a book that just doesn't connect with you. We all like different genres or types of writing so chances are someone else out there will enjoy that book and it is allright for you to stop reading it...

I used to feel guilty for not finishing a book. Almost as if I was doing the author a disservice to the work that was created. As I got older, I realized that I should enjoy what I choose to read because I won’t be able to read every book there is anyway!

For some reason, I do feel guilty, but I don’t know why. It’s not like I’m being graded. Luckily, I haven’t DNFed very many books.

This depends on the kind of book actually, if it's a boring one I won't feel guilty if I don't finish reading it. If I'm reading a particular book and I don't feel the vibe to continue reading, then I just stop because it's more like I'm wasting my time.

I don't feel guilty. I'll drop it if I start to lose interest. But I might pick it up again later just to finish it. I do it for no particular reason; it just makes me feel happy when I complete something.

I do not feel guilty when I didn't finish the book but I get OCD. Even if the book is not that good I try to finish it due to OCD.

I used to feel bad for giving up on reading, but not anymore. The traditional learning system in Indonesian schools conditioned me to finish every book. However, as time went on, I realized it's not necessary, and just reading relevant chapters is fine.

I completely understand where you're coming from. Reading should be enjoyable, not a chore. If a book isn't capturing your interest, it's okay to move on—there are so many other books out there that might resonate with you more. Maybe it's not the right time for you to read it, or perhaps it just doesn't align with your taste. Either way, there's no need to feel guilty—reading should be about pleasure, not pressure :D

Yes! I feel very guilty if I don't finish a book I have started reading and besides guilt there is always that itch in my mind of how that story ended so I mostly complete any books that I have selected to read.

I felt very guilty in the past for doing so. And although I have become more permissive about it and being able to quit a few these years, I tend to finish them if what I read cause me enough curiosity to know in which places the characters end up being, as I want to discuss it with friends even as a funny anecdote :D.

Yes weirdly so. My conscience eats at me until i can no longer stand it and would have to finish the book. But sometimes I just ignore it.
