A book is like a good movie- it takes you away from your current situation and gives an alternate view for the time while you read.

For me it's definitely an escape into another world for a while. I also love hearing other people's life stories.

I like reading for many reasons....to escape into a world or place I would not be able to go to in real life. To get "alone" time away from my kids, and it is a pleasure to view things from someone else's eyes.

I like to read for many reasons. I like books, because they make me forget about my ordinary day-to-day problems; they transfer me into a whole new world. They change my perspectives, enrich my imagination, help me get to know myself and the world around me.

Here is a quote about books that I like:
Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers. ~Charles W. Eliot

Reading is a way for me to decompress from the stress of the day, either at my lunch break at work, or when I am at home. I also like to learn new things, or read a story that will make me laugh out loud. With books I can be anyone, do anything and go anywhere I want to go. All have to do is open a book and open my mind to many possibilities.

The mind is like a muscle in your body....it needs to be worked. Reading allows me to exercise my brain, while improving my vocabulary and thought processes. I did not enjoy reading when I was younger, but have really enjoyed it over the past few years.

I think absorbing information can kind of be divided into hearing it, seeing it or reading it. It's a sensory thing with television, too much noise and lights and crap for the most part. Obviously many people love television and video for just that reason. But with a book you can create the noise in your thoughts...I dunno does that make sense?

The reason why I like reading can be found in the lyrics of the Reading Rainbow theme song.

Because there are a lot of interesting characters to be found in literature. It's inspiring to read a story that keeps you on your toes, that makes you giggle before the actual joke is even told because you see it happen as it is destined to happen, just like you already tremble in fear before the consequences of the hero's actions have been revealed. A book shelf is a gathering of lives, of life stories waiting to be told.
Well, that's my reason to read - or rather the reason I am obsessed with searching for stories that give me just that feeling.

You took the words right out my mouth. Ha ha. I love being transported to a new world, embody the perspective of new people. That's why I read: for escapism. Except non-fiction; I read that for information.

This!

I love nothing more than reading a book quietly in the livingroom whilst its raining. It takes me to another place.
