Books are more open to interpretation. One can spend hours discussing the implications of a book and it continually keeps a mind open to new ideas and allows them to grow. Other avenues of media have a hard time with this aspect of theory and inspiration because once the discussion based on the subject is discussed it stops. Books may have subject matter but after that matter is discussed it sparks new discussion on new topics. When someone reads they are still learning, even if they have finished reading that particular book.
I also enjoy reading to relax. If I'm not in the mood for deep thinking, I just pick a different type of book. It is usually fantasy or fiction. There are times when the real world can get rather heavy and demanding. It is good to know that I have a place to escape, even for a moment, until I am ready to face reality. I love to read poetry specifically when I want to relax and truly appreciate the world around me. Poetry opens my eyes in such a unique and spectacular way. I look up from reading poetry and I am, somehow, able to see things in ways I hadn't before. It is so exhilarating.
I feel like I should stop here. I could talk about the many reasons I love to read for hours! This is only the tip of the iceberg, but I feel like I have given you the gist of why I love to read. Thanks for the post, I don't get asked often why I like to read. I've really enjoyed reading the variety of responses.

1. It allows and dares me to grow mentally into thinking and falling in line with the characters.
2. It challenges my perspective and allows me to experience multiple realities
3. It brings life and helps me not to feel alone.

With self help books and biographies it's like having a conversation with powerful and great figures. Such a great way to spend your time.

Throughout my life I have enjoyed different genres. When I was a young adult, I was fascinated by self-help and spiritual type books. Currently I enjoy American History and books on nutrition and healthy living.
I look forward throughout the day to taking some time and being absorbed into a good book.
Joining the Online Book Club was a natural for me. It is especially exciting to choose my next book.
