I like reading because it let me experience things vicariously and.... yeah let me escape the real world problems.

Also reading books help me build good vocabulary and grammar and also gives information on some topics that one may find too stupid to look up to.

Reading has the power to take to another world, without having to pack. I like reading for that, to be able to imagine new places and new situations.

Pretty much the same reasons as most of us :)
Reading allows me to escape from reality and to dive into new worlds, laugh, suffer and fight with characters and it's just so much better than watching movies.

Our criminal law professor begged us in the first lecture to read as much as much as possible, doesn't matter what, because in any case it will make you a better lawyer in the future - even it's a romance/sci-fi / fantasy book.

I am not socially popular and I can say I have never been. This created a void in me because I was never capable of having friends or those that liked me enough to call me theirs friend too.

I started reading because it made me forget about the world around me and put a smile on my face. The empty void I felt was gone every time I picked up a book. But now it has become part of me. I rather read a book than sit down talking to people. The irony really makes me laugh.

Reading makes me happy and does not make me feel alone.

I read mainly because it's interesting, but also because it's fun. I love to read books that make me laugh.
Every once in a while, I read to distract myself and escape from a feeling. And lately, I've been reading "smart people" books (basically just not fiction for once) because apparently, that's a good thing to do. Also, you are what you read and the people you hand out with; I want to be smart.

I love to read because I feel like it frees me from my life, not that I don't like my life I do. It's just there are so many restrictions and expectations in life and reading gives me an escape, a little time to breathe and lose myself in an alternative universe where anything is possible.

My favorite thing is to read . I listen to books in the shower, in the car, I read every where I go. Reading is my escape and it always makes me feel relaxed and distressed. I especially love sharing my love for a book and recommending greT books to others. Reading makes me happy and I look for a way to read everyday.

I like to learn from what I read, and it's fun to transport somewhere else for a while, without moving an inch.

Scott wrote: 19 Aug 2007, 12:05 We all like reading. In fact, most of us would probably say that we love reading.

Why do you like it so much? What is it about reading that attracts you to it?

I think I like reading because it allows me to hear from people who have something important to say. You can read from the best thinkers no matter where they are or even when. I'm amazed by the fact that I can go to the book store and buy hours of reading material written by someone who lived hundreds or even thousands of years ago.

What about you?
I enjoy reading. Reading a good book, allows me to escape as others have said. Reading enhances my knowledge, because I learn a lot of new words and different things about our world, that I may not have known. I also use reading for guidance, as a parent I like finding books about parenting or articles dealing with certain situations. It gives me the chance to read others ideas, perspectives, and to implement what I have read later.

Sometimes I love to read but sometimes I feel lazy. I love reading because it takes you to a different world and for a moment you're elsewhere, especially fantasy novels.

Escapism is definitely number one. My day job is healthcare, and with Covid I have to get away. Second, to learn new ideas which allow me to value different perspectives. It's pretty entertaining as well!
