There are lots of girls who pretend to like football, to fool some poor lad into thinking they have something in common.

Hmmm... Probably some lad is already starting to wonder why did he never notice before how pretty you are...

I am.

My boyfriend doesn't read. It isn't and never has been in his interests. We've got plenty other things to talk about and I have plenty of other people to discuss books with.

And just like he can go on for ages about design graphics and I listen patiently, he listens to me when I go on a rant about a bad book or declare my love for a book I just read. Just 'cause he doesn't read, doesn't mean he can't still get involved.

My husband doesn't read. He knows I love to read and has no problems with it. It's the same as his love for the military channel, and sci fyi movies.

I think as much as its important to have things in common, its also to have your own interests.

He is a big gamer. As a matter of fact while I'm typing this he's on facebook playing games. lol

In England we say, "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach."

One very-much-ex of mine had previously run a cafe, and was brilliant at cooking. I still remember her bustling about in the kitchen, preparing a dinner party for our guests. She seemed the perfect woman, and I felt a sudden catch in my heart as I realised that I had fallen deeply in love with her.

But, apropos the title of this thread, I don't think that she ever read a book. I never bothered to ask. What pathetic creatures men are....

Let me tell you something; I was on a dating site once (bad bad mistake) and I listed reading along with some other creative type interests and what 'matches' did I get? Guys who only read MOTORCYCLE magazines, wouldn't know an indie film if they were belt over the head with it and...anyway.No. The answer is no and not because of intelligence or anything, just interest. And I'm with you inky..I DREAM of a man I could discuss books with..where are they? (I even liked a guy once who read similar books ..but ahh that's a sad story..unrequited love:( ..it seems guys don't care WHAT you're interested in as long as you are breathing...

Pretty cynical outlook on the male sex you have there, Honeybarbara. You know, it's not nice to generalize. Some people might take offense. ;)
