I enjoy reading for the escape. You can pretty much go where ever your imagination takes you and forget your stresses for a little while. And sometimes I read to make myself think and to learn something new.

So many reasons! I love the different ways authors use language. I love the worlds that are created in books. I love the feeling of connection between me, the author, and other readers who have read the book. I love the stories and the characters. Should I go on?

I love reading, because it takes me out of my life for a while. It's like having a movie in your head and I know that sounds cheesy but you get to control how the setting and characters look to you. I wish I could explain it better. It's wonderful.

I like reading for the acquisition of knowledge, and also for the escape from reality that I can get from certain books. Immersing myself in different worlds and different characters lives allows me to escape from thet stresses and strains of daily life.

I wouldn't say I like reading, I'd say I love it. Why? Because books allow you to go to places you wouldn't be able to go otherwise. It doesn't matter if it's a planet that you know doesn't exist or a faraway land, you can always go to that special place when you're reading.

I love to read to "get away from it all". It's my quiet time just for me. :)

I like reading b/c it enables to me to go anywhere and it's like taking a trip. It's very relaxing to me and emotions that can come alive just from reading are amazing to me.

I can only concur with you, Scott. I learn so much from other's perspectives, on the nonfictional side of things. Historical fiction are the best history books. Period. (In my humble opinion) Fiction books take me into worlds I would have never imagined on my own.

I love reading!! :-)

I enjoy reading because you can learn so much about so many different topics. It can also be a way to get away if you are stressed. It is an excellent way to increase your critical thinking.

I have never had a good answer to this question, because it's something I've always liked since I was a kid. it's kind of like asking: Why do you like chocolate? I never really thought to understand why I liked reading, except that I generally agree with the idea that it allows you to see things from another person's perspective, learn things, and because it's entertaining.

For me, it's an escape. As a psychologist I hear way too many real-life problems and conflicts on a daily basis. That's one of the reasons I enjoy the fantasy and supernatural genres so much...it's pretty much as far from reality as you can get!

I love reading because I get to enter another time and place with another person. I love historical fiction in particular because it's a fun way to learn about history - much better than it was in school! But, I love reading almost anything because I always learn something.

To learn new things.
To be entertained.
To dissociate from the world around me.

I have to have the tv ON while I read. For background noise. Sometimes my attention goes back and forth, but most often its on what I am reading.
Weird, I know.
