Somehow I like hardcover books better. I think the reason is because it feels like I do not have to be overly careful

I enjoy either paper back or hardcover, both way more than I enjoy reading books digitally. While travelling I prefer to have paper back books as they are more lightweight. At home in my library though I enjoy the feel of hardcover novels more.

I prefer hard cover, they are durable, they don't easily get bad and they last for a very long period of time

Paperback!
I'm a spine-breaker so for me the choice is obvious.
The hardcover are usually stunning, but they are also hard and difficult to manage flipping pages.
But just today I fell in love with a Sherlock Holmes large hardcover book. :snooty:

Why I Prefer Paperback/Hardcover Books

When it comes to reading, one of the classic dilemmas is choosing between paperback and hardcover books. For me, both formats have their unique appeal, but there's something special about paperbacks/hardcovers that makes them my preferred choice. Here's why:

Why I Prefer Paperbacks:

1. Portability: One of the biggest advantages of paperbacks is their portability. They're lighter and more compact, making them easy to carry around wherever I go. Whether I'm commuting, traveling, or just heading to a park, a paperback is the perfect companion.

2. Affordability: Paperbacks are often more affordable than hardcovers, allowing me to expand my book collection without breaking the bank. This means I can buy more books and explore a wider range of genres and authors.

3. Ease of Reading: The flexible spine of a paperback makes it easier to hold and read, especially for long periods. I can easily flip through the pages, fold the book back, and even read with one hand, making it a convenient choice for relaxed reading.

I like the flexibility of paperbacks for their portability and the durability of hardcovers for their longevity. Paperbacks are also way cheaper, but hardcovers are also nice because people tend to ask "Oh, is that a hardcover?" :)

I personally prefer hardcover books. I find that they stay intact for longer than a paperback book would. Plus, I love the feeling of hardcover books, and the textures that are made on the book jackets.

Paperback is lightweight and it doesn't take much space inside any bag. For books I love, I would occasionally buy a limited edition hardcover, even though I have tore through the paperback a million times, for keepsakes purposes only.

I love both and it really depends on the situation. Hardbacks look prettier on the shelf and they don't get as damaged as easily, so they work for travelling, but paperbacks/soft covers are better for reading in bed and they don't weigh as much so my hands don't get as sore.

Definitely hard cover. Helps protect the pages from coffee spills. My soft cover books get worn much faster.
I am an avid reader. I typically read 1-2 books per week. I enjoy a wide array of genres including Sci Fi, Action/Thriller, and Historical Fiction.

As a geologist and christian, I also particularly enjoy books on science and faith.

Paperbacks travel better, but hardcovers are more durable.
Exactly, that's the whole point!
Besides the fact that Paperbacks are cheaper, hardback books were common since ancient times for this very matter of durability and conservation. Generally speaking, at the time when first books were used, burocratic scripts were "paperback" (without proper cover-plates) while literary or legal text where covered by wood plates to preserve them form time, dust and bugs. These however were consulted more sporadically.
