I have tried Tolkien a few times but have still yet to finish the complete Lord of the Rings. I have gotten through The Hobbit but the big one is still giving me fits. But to answer the thread's question, I found my love for books at about 7 when I got hooked on the Hardy Boys and read the whole series in order from my school library. I have never looked back since. My love for books has been solid all the way up until now.yogitranscend wrote:I *wanted* to love books when I was 9 or so but I would always go too big with my choices (Thoreau, Emerson, Tolkien, Dante) so I would never actually get through a book. I would get a few pages in and become overwhelmed but, even so, I still enjoyed what I could muster. I found my love for reading bloom to a normal speed at around 25 and ever since I can't stop reading! I find myself reading "harder" books like transcendentalism sporadically while reading lighter things every night to keep in a rhythm of enjoyment over wine before bed. I enjoy fantasy the most and am not afraid to take weeks on even a young adult book, as the pleasure of reading is at my own speed. No need to speed read.

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for Thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety. ~ Psalms 4:8

This feel for the strange and for action helped me develop as an author.
