The Altitude Journals by David Mauro. I gave it a 4 out of 4 because he went to great lengths to write it. How many authors climbed such challenging mountains? It's impressive that he not only climbed them, but he recorded and blogged details as he did so. I've never read such an author.

The War the Saved My Life

This is a children's novel but still is 100% worth the read! I loved it!

I recently read Tess of The Road by Rachel Hartman.
It is a really interesting young adult fantasy book that treats really important topics. I was weary of it when I got it, but I actually ended up loving it. My consensus is of 4/5

Just finished

When the Men Were Gone by Marjorie Herrera Lewis

I loved the setup of this novel. It's based on the true story of a woman who coaches a high school football team during WWII. Sadly, I don't think the execution was that great. 3/5 rating

The last book that I read was The Ordinary Doll by Mark Kiefer. Although, it was a great story I gave it a 3 out of 4-star rating. I gave it this rating because I was a really good story and I enjoyed reading it yet, the author seemings to draw out some parts of it which or where I did not see that it was needed. Yet, there were occasions throughout the book that I wish that he would have elaborated more but he didn't.

I just finished "The Life List" by Lori Nelson Spielman. It was a great read! I say that because it was unpredictable...at least up until the end. And, it sent me on an emotional roller coaster because of the plots and twists which is what really happens in Life. :o

Little Bird of Heaven by Joyce Carol Oates is primarily the study of the murder of Zoe Kruller, in Sparta, USA, in the 1980s, but it is anything but a crime procedural novel.

The narrative is revealed from the perspectives of two young people closely connected with Zoe Kruller. Firstly, Krista Diehl, a whose father Eddie had an extramarital affair with Zoe, and who was widely suspected of being her murderer. Secondly, Aaron Kruller, son of Zoe, whose father, Delray, was also a suspect in the killing.

The first half of the novel is mostly from Krista's perspective, and reveals the doubts and uncertainties of a teenage woman growing up in a divided family full of tension and angst. Small events are examined in intricate detail, as Krista explores her own emotions and emerging relationships with her father, mother and brother.

Krista also develops a fascination, confusing it with love, for Aaron Kruller, who is enigmatic, dark, moody and who has a sinister air about him.

Aaron takes over the narrative in the second half of the novel, as his life falls into disarray and petty crime, following the death of his mother and the gradual disintegration of his father Delray.

Oates manages to maintain an edge, a feeling of imbalance and uncertainty and intrigue throughout the novel as Krista and Aaron detail their perspectives on events in Sparta. The plotting is intricate and expertly handled, and the novel is always engaging and absorbing.

4 stars out of 5
