The last book I (re)read was a classic- "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" by JK Rowling.

I know it gets a lot of flack for emo!Harry and capslock!Harry, along with a particular sad event toward the end, but I honestly thought it was incredibly powerful and realistic? I mean, a fantasy world with wizards and magic would not be my go-to for realism, but I found Harry's reactions to be really sympathetic. He's a teenager, confused, been abused and neglected his entire life, and just saw something incredibly scarring that changed his life forever. It makes sense to me. While I think the beginning feels a bit slow, once it got going, it was impossible to put down.

I especially love the attention it gave to Ginny, Luna, and Neville, really filling in these seemingly more background characters and giving them a certain oomph. If there was one thing that made me disappointed, it was that I felt Snape could've done with a little more character development. We get more information about his past and rocky relationship with James, and while that **informs** his present, we also don't see him grow. In my opinion, discovering a sad past doesn't change his bad and petty behavior in the present - I say this as a Snape lover. It would've been nice if we'd gotten at least a little more development from him this book. Maybe some sort of acknowledgment from him that he and Harry come from similar backgrounds? It didn't ruin or detract from the book, but I definitely found myself annoyed by his inability to grow. A sad past doesn't excuse his bullying of Harry, and especially Neville and Hermione.

Umbridge is the hated highlight. I will drink that haterade 'til the day I die. She is an awful human being and there are very few things in life that satisfy me quite like watching her fall. JK Rowling definitely succeeded in creating a universally hated character, a Complete Monster in almost every regard. The movie cannot even begin to show how evil this woman is (but some things are just too hard to display on screen). And because the book was particularly dark - I feel like the only book in the series darker than the fifth is the seventh and final - it made the triumphant moments particularly epic.

Some favorite quotes-

"You know, Minister, I disagree with Dumbledore on may counts ... but you cannot deny he's got style." (THIS. WHOLE. SCENE.)

"Give her hell from us, Peeves!"

"Have a biscuit, Potter."

I always loved McGonagall, but this made me love her even more!

I love this book. It's definitely one of my favorite HP books in the entire series. It's just too epic not to be.

Overall, I rate it 4/4.

I read The Dark Web Murders. I really liked it but had to give it 3 instead of 4 stars because of some editing errors. It's part of a series. I'd definitely read the other books, too.

The last book I read was confessions of a manaholic VIP. Peayer. Capital I gave this book a two star rating. This book was poetry/autobiography and I felt like the author showed all of her emotions. Every naked, raw and honest emotions. She went from insanity, to sanity and back to doubling down on her insanity. This book was like a roller coaster ride with more loops than a normal roller coaster. Even though it was poetry and even though it was written in the pros style it was quite repetitive Well anyway that was the last book I read. :(

I read The Easter Make Believers and gave it 3 out of 4 stars. I'm a pretty tough critic when it comes to murder mysteries, so 3/4 means I definitely recommend it!

I just finished Time Travelers Never Die by Jack McDevitt. I rate it 3 out of 4 stars. I really liked the take on time travel and the rules that go along with it! Also, it is a super fun read.

Abominations Of Modern Society by Thomas DeWitt Talmage. A rather interesting take on whats wrong with the world, it was written in 1875 but hits the nail right on the head. Things havent changed that much since then, we still have the same basic problems even nowdays. Crime, drugs, carnal lust and so on. Its kind of preachy, Talmage was a minister but still interesting.

While not quite as delightful as White Teeth, Swing Time by Zadie Smith is nevertheless full of the zest, vivacity and wry observation that she has become known and appreciated for.

This is the story of two young brown girls, the narrator never named, and her friend Tracey, who grew up in a lower class area of London, interested, almost fascinated, by dance and theatre. Tracey has the talent, if not the parental support, but our narrator, who is perhaps a better singer than dancer, takes her career in a different direction as they become young adults.

The narrative was at its best in the early part of the book, describing the relationship between the young, hopeful girls, with their dreams and romantic notions of dance and performance.

It seemed to fall a little flat in the middle, and it seemed to drift and lose direction for a while. New characters were introduced who didn't seem to add much to the plot.

The end was satisfying, if not completely neat and tidy, and the writing was full of verve and engagement.

Zadie Smith is one of those writers I would always be happy to read, as she she has such a degree of wit and exuberance as well as a delightful turn of phrase.

Last book I read was "A Hundred Little Flames" by Preeti Shenoy. It is a story of a young guy who is sent to stay with his grand father for a while where he learns to see his life in a new way. I felt it so refreshing. I gave it 5/5.
