Embassytown by China Mieville (2011) is a clever, intelligent, most unusual science fiction story about language.

The setting, time and place, for Embassytown is obscure, but it its inhabitants are mostly quite bizarre, although some, including the narrator, Avice, resemble humans. Language is at the essence of this tale of communication between various sentient creatures. Language is not just sounds or spoken words, but also gestures, thoughts, a drug and, importantly, similes.

Kudos to Mieville for originality and intelligent discourse, but this is a challenging book, requiring concentration to read and fully appreciate, because many of the concepts are so obscure and intangible.

One for those who like their sci-fi just a little bit different. 4 stars out of 5

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, I gave it 5 stars, it had an incredible full cast audiobook and I kept forgetting that the characters weren't actually real people, I'm super stoked for the TV adaptation.

The last book I read was Before She Was Found by Heather Gudenkauf. I'd rate it a 5 out of 5 stars. It was well written and had a different format than most books which kept the readers attention. I'd definitely read it again.

Ender In Exile by Orson Scott Card is something of a delayed sequel to the original Ender's Game, published 23 years later, and designed to fill in some gaps and correct some inconsistencies in other novels in the Ender series.

With the maturity that comes with age and experience, this is, in my opinion, a much better novel than Ender's Game. It picks up at the end of the formic wars, when Ender is unable to return to Earth, considered by some to be a hero but by others as a ruthless assassin.

Ender is appointed Governor of the new colony, known as Shakespeare (originally Colony 1), and travels there with his sister Valentine and new colonists. Meanwhile his brother Peter, as Hegemon, becomes the unifying ruler on Earth.

In filling the gaps, Card has produced an engaging, intelligent and diverse novel that is full of great characters, an absorbing plot and sometimes profoundly philosophical observations, and which is capable of standing alone, without having read the other books except perhaps the original. This is the book Card should have written second.

My last read was The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. It started slow but it redeemed itself on the latter part. It was a five star read to me. I'm currently reading its sequel - The Wicked King.

The last book I read, was Child of God, but Cormac McCarthy. This book is about a man who has had a troubled life and makes some poor decisions. The storyline is his life from the first wrong choice he made and how it plays out for him. Very interesting, gruesome read.

Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks by Morton E Tavel, MD. I gave it 4 out of 4 stars because the book was well-researched and informative. Also, the author's writing style was captivating.

Just finished The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah and loved it. Very engaging from the start and relatable characters with the interesting backdrop of the Alaskan wilderness.

My most recent book is The Ultimate Island by Amit Offir. It's an interesting and entertaining travelogue with a great overview of Malta. However, I had the impression that it's advertised to be something more, so I only rate it 2 out of 4 stars.

I just finished two books. One is "Legendary" by Stephanie Garber. It's the second book in her "Caraval" series and it is the second time I've read it. I fell in love with the trilogy ever since I opened the first book. I rate all three of the books a 4 out of 4.
The other book is "We Are Voulhire: A New arrival Under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz. I give that one a 3 out of 4 stars due to some editing errors.

The last book I read was There There by Tommy Orange, and would rate it as 4/5. I felt a slight disconnect with some of the characters throughout the story, but was drawn to others and felt the emotional impact by the end.

I just finished The Murder Complex by Lindsay Cummings. And I'm sad to say I wasn't impressed. Gave it 2/5 stars. Even though it was quite action-packed and fast-paced, it was dull.
