Burn Zones by Jorge P. Newbery. I rated it 4/4 stars. One of the best non-fiction books I've ever read!

The last book I read was Ten Big Ones by Janet Evanovich. This is the tenth book in the Stephanie Plum series, which I love and I rated the book a 3/5

I read 'Catching Fire' by Suzanne Collins.I give it a 3/4.
Altough the book is fast paced and exciting, it didn't meet my expectations of 'The Hunger Games' sequel.

I just finished a Thousand Splendid Suns, it was a poignant story about two women in Afghanistan and how the entwining of their two lives altered their destinies. The writing was beautiful, Khaled Hosseini presented a compelling narrative with three-dimensional characters and the decisions the protagonists made felt inevitable but heart-wrenching. I have seen the movie adaptation of the Kite Runner, but now I really want to read the book because I really enjoy the author's writing style and how his empathy and optimism (despite dealing with dark topics) seeps through his works.

I've just finished Out Loud: June's Venture, a rather charming children's book about bullying. Indeed, I wasn't even planning on reading it to the end, but I just kept going and going until I reached the last page. If that's not the mark of an excellent book, I don't know what is. It gets a 4 out of 4 from me, and an enthusiastic recommendation for parents, guardians, teachers, or anyone who remains a child at heart.

The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammett (1932) is a little different to most crime novels and certainly unlike The Maltese Falcon in style.

Here we have a retired detective (albeit still quite young), married to a wealthy woman with whom he is clearly in love, and enjoying a full and satisfying social life, and who is reluctant to be drawn into solving the murder of a female acquaintance.

The plot is full of twists and turns, with most of the characters being untrustworthy and loose with the truth.

Few of the characters are particularly likable or honest, which reflects Hammett's view of the corruption that was rife in many areas of American society in the 1930s. (Has it changed?)

Not my favorite genre, but an enjoyable and entertaining read. 4 stars out of 5.
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

I just finished re-reading Catch-22by Joseph Heller. I would give it 4 out of 4 stars.

I think the first time you read the book, you're mostly just trying to piece together the plot, since a significant portion of the novel is non-linear. That's why a second read was so important for me. In high school, I mostly just tried to grasp the plot, recognize a few important symbols, etc., but now that I've got that foundation, I feel that I really saw the genius of Heller's plot structure, writing style, and character development. Because I was able to comb through the novel again, I feel that each of Heller's characters really vibrantly taught me about people and society. For example, Major Major Major gave me such a fresh perspective on how being ostracized and lonely affects people.

I would very much recommend this book, especially for anyone looking for themes about individuality, identity, autonomy, or social commentary. :techie-studyinggray: Happy reading!

Finally! I finished The Silmarillion.
It was amazing.
I'm giving it 4 stars. But because of the many names and the interwoven stories and all the details.... I'm going to re-read this book. There are a lot of things I've forgotten  That's not good... but oh, well, it happens.

The last book I read was Authenticity by Deirdre Madden. I actually really enjoyed it with the exception of the last couple of chapters, which were a bit of a 'come down', and the ending a bit disappointing. Still recommended reading though. I give this book 3 out of 4 stars.

The last book I read was pet sematary by stephen king. I give it a 4/5 rating because this book is one of his works that truely terrified me and kept me up at night with its horror. I would say that this in my opinion is up there on my list of stephen kings books. :techie-studyinggray:
