Warlord by Ted Bell is one of those action-packed novels that is unrelenting in its pace and incredible stretch of credibility.

It involves a plot to kill the British Royal family, the IRA, with links to the murder of Lord Louis Mountbatten several decades previously, a modern Islamic jihadi terrorist group called the Sword of Allah, MI5, MI6, the CIA, threats to kill busloads of American school children, a stolen Pakistani nuclear device, loads of brutal killing, an extensive technical dossier of weapons of war and their destructive power, a psychopath known as 'Smith', and a perfect, indestructible English superhero called Alex Hawke who always gets the girl and the bad guys.

The characters are total cliches, the plot is contrived and quite ridiculous, the writing is tediously formulaic, the tone is misogynistic, nationalistic, racist and bordering on white supremacist.

One for those who like to get absorbed in all the action and mindless killing and destruction, but not recommended for readers who like quality literature.

I finished reaing Chandler Baker's Whisper Network.

The book follows a group of women, most of them lawyers, who have all been impacted by the harassment/abuse of one man.
When that man is set to be promoted to CEO, they decide to file a suit to bring his actions to light, but things don't go as planned.

This is part mystery, part thriller, but it missed its mark as a statement against rapests/abusers/harassers. There's a lot of internalized misogyny in these characters, and while some is obviously added for affect, some is clearly not. Add to that a very TERFy feel and the fact that every single male character is 'bad' in some way...it just (in my opinion) failed at what it was trying to do. 1 out of 4.

So I finished reading Investigating Julius Drake by Daisy Harris today. It was okay but not good enough. Not for me anyway. So, I gave it 2 stars only.

I just finished Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I always knew that the book is better than the movie. There are many plots and characters in the book that not included in the movie which is very unsatisfied and not very complete. However, the movie is pretty enjoyable to watch but I preffered the book the most. I give it 4 out of 4

Hi. I have just finished reading George Crile's "Charlie Wilson's War" book. It is a true account of the CIA most covert operation that acted as a definite trigger for the downfall of the Soviet empire. I give it the score of 4 out of 4. Must read!

The last story I read was the novella Snapshot by Brandon Sanderson, which I rated 3/5. Despite being such a short read, it was based on an interesting concept (Inception meets the Matrix perhaps) and as is typical of Sanderson's work, still had a tight focus on characterization and relationship dynamics. Overall an enjoyable read.

I read Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott. It was a young adult romance. I give it 5/5 stars. It was so sad and touching and I cried at the end which was rare because I don’t usually cry over books. Do check it out! :D

Did you read the abbreviated version or the one that included the last chapter where he decides he wants to grow up a bit?

Impressions of Africa by French author Raymond Roussel, first published in 1910, is a strange, surrealistic novel that breaks new ground, departing from a tradition of realism in fiction writing, to present something with an unusual timeline and form.

While the writing is colorful and full of wonderful detail (it must have been difficult to translate from French to English), I found my mind wandering as I failed to fully comprehend what was going on and the point of the story.

A curious and interesting novel in the annals of fiction writing, but not really my cup of tea. 3 stars out of 5
