While reading you can explore new words, learn new things, get to know new people(yeah I know that they are not real), you even better understand yourself and things around you. It is the power. Addiction.

Aside from the personal growth and enjoyment derived from said pursuit, reading is empowering and opens many doors. In our recent past, slaves were rarely provided opportunity to learn to read. This was to maintain a level of oppression. In some countries today, women and children are similarly stifled.

Reading opens our minds, and provides educational opportunities otherwise unattainable... which can broaden and change our lives.

To me reading is more then just a way to pass the time. I love reading because it has become a coping mechanism to me. If I am stressed or upset, I can sit down with a good book an escape into a new world for a few hours. Being able to get lost in a book is so important to me and something I cherish, which is probably why I love fantasy, romance, and thrillers!

In general, reading provides knowledge and perspective without us venturing in the outside world to learn lesson first. Not to say that worldly information is less important, but reading is just as important.

I definitely agree, reading makes you broad-minded and non-judgmental. Since you're always jumping in the shoes of another, you start to give people a breather, knowing that something genuine might have caused them to act this particular way. Moreover, it's a huge source of knowledge. Like, someone who hasn't ever left their own city knows where they can sight bears in Alaska, or how warm and wet it can get in the Amazon, and exactly what to pack for a zombie apocalypse (lol).

Reading is important to me because I can communicate with others and learn an immense amount of knowledge from others who were not raised in the same living environment as I was. So yes, it improves my understanding of the world around me.

I think reading is important because it broadens your horizons and you learn about different times, places, and ideas.

Reading is important because it wakes up our brains which tend to sleep too much due to the mind-numbing passiveness of social media, gaming, and binge-watched television. It forces us to actually think, and there's entirely too little thinking going on these days.

I totally agree with the points you've listed above. Reading keeps one informed, boosts understanding, gets one's creative thinking up and can be very relaxing.

Like most of the replies, I think it is so important to read so one may learn something...whether a new recipe, a new lifestyle and/or diet, uplifting religious, how to save money, etc.

There are too many reasons to read. I think few of them includes escaping from reality, gaining knowledge, for joy and to avoid boredom or to collect as many books as possible.

I want my English to be up-to-date, I keep reading because I want to be better in my communication skills. I got to speak English when I was a little older and this bothered me a lot.

Books are ways in which we can develop our brains by learning new things about people who you haven't even seen. Books work wonders.
