For me, it's a tie between romance and mystery. I love them both

I like to read thrillers (mostly political, psychological and crime), horror, both fiction and non fiction history, science fiction and spy fi. Not necessarily in that order. I like to read some political philosophy too.

I don't want to be so cliche but I love a good Romance. Something about the love story intertwined with so much drama and complications makes them fascinating. I also enjoy non-fiction thrillers (maybe that is why I graduated with a CJ/Psych major?). I read a book in middle school that hooked my interest by Lois Duncan called Who Killed My Daughter? Uplifting, I know. Something about the mystery and true events also spark interest in me.

I have to admit to being a sucker for a good romance but I also like stories about families and relationships and dealing with issues that we all face.

I'm very, very flexible with genre - sci-fi, fantasy, adventure, mystery, thriller are all great for me. What attracts me the most is humor. It doesn't always have to be the saucy, slapstick kind, just a soft, wry undercurrent of satire would be enough to get my attention. Whether the book is good or not will then be key to whether it can keep my attention - I'll come for the humor, but I'll leave if the other aspects are bad. This is why the latest fantasy book I read and liked was William Bradshaw, King of the Goblins, the latest romance was Georgette Heyer's the Convenient Marriage, the latest mystery was Elizabeth Peters' Crocodile on the Sandbank, the latest intrigue/horror was Taono Chiveneko's The Hangman's Replacement -there's a running theme of humor there, I swear!

I'll read almost anything, but my favorites are fantasy and science fiction. My favorite books are the ones that have something of the weird and inexplicable to them.

I will always fall back on fantasy, with sci-fi pulling a close second. Authors like Piers Anthony and Anne McCaffrey dominated my world as a child and have remained with me long into adulthood. I bought my 3rd grader, who is an avid reader, A Spell For Chameleon- his first Piers Anthony novel. Read it well, Son...

I think that I prefer YA fiction and fantasy. I generally prefer YA to adult books because to me, adult books lack innocence.
