For me, the "Quality " of the writer trumps genre almost anytime w/ a few exceptions ( fantasy, dystopian, etc. )...

I'm a sucker for EXTRAORDINARY writing skills...

I like paranormal, meaning spirits, haunted houses, hotels, people and places. Also, I love horror like Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Bentley Little. Sometimes I also like to read true crime stories once in a while. But also depending on my mood, I read romantic thrillers by Heather Graham and Lisa Jackson, that type of genre.

I love a wide variety of genres, and don't think I could limit myself to naming only one a favorite. In truth, when I'm searching for books to read I decide based on the writing style and tone used, rather than the genre itself.

You will be, I promise! I started reading YA when I was 10 years old, and my older sister laughed at me because she thought I was trying to look more "grown up." And here I am, 20 years later, still reading YA, my sister still laughing at me because I haven't grown up at all.

I like mystery books with a who done it. I always like trying to figure out who the murderer is.

I'm still most fond of YA fiction, but recently I have been branching out into "adult" books a little bit more, and I am surprised to see that they are not as terrible as I once thought they were...

Personally, I prefer mystery novels and historical fiction.

I like a lot of the classics, but the genre I read most is Historical Christian Romance.

Mystery/Detective. I live in Mexico now and one of the few things I miss is my reading group. The reading group pushed me out of my normal genre into other readings. Sometimes it was an exotic adventure and sometimes it wasn't.

I like a multitude of genres but if I had to choose just one it would probably be science fiction. Closely followed by mystery/detective. But I enjoy mostly any fiction.
