It might have something to do with women needing some enjoyment in their lives. The thrill of reading romance novels makes their lives more enjoyable and leads them to have a very sharp and intuitive mind.

I think reading makes anybody smarter not just women. The magic of book (here I think particullarly of novels) is that you get insight into somebodies thoughts, their world. It expands your horizons, allow you to think thoughts that without the aid of books would not have occured to you, or at least to me. For example when I read Bukowski you get an impression of what the american depression was like. For me as a non-american and to young to have experienced it for myself it allows me access to a world otherwise cut of me. Books help me to understand another perspective. They help me grow. The world is vast and filled with facinating people and things to learn. Books is a reflection of this of who we are.

I think it's just the fact that people are reading and therefore engaging their minds that makes them smarter, not hat it has anything to do with a particular genre or book that they are reading.

I could be really cynical and say it makes woman smarter because they read the 'romance' and realise its an unrealistic dream and decide to kick ass at everything else...

Maybe there is something motivational about reading about female characters who are able to embark on a romance successfully. In which case maybe the characters themselves are inspirational.

Just speculating.

Can I just say that I am a women and read mostly sci-fi and fantasy not romance at all necesarily.

I think the answer lies in the fact that there is a sharpening of the mind taking place when a woman engages in escapism and the conjuring of fantasies when reading romance novels.

This must surely be one of the silliest topics on the Forums IMO right up there with Count to a Million & Last Post Wins ... but it is good to laugh

I noticed that and wondered that too why I couldn't resist answering it. Glad I did and view it as all fun really.

There is no need to justify why women should read romance novels. they do not necessarily make women smarter, it only expands their fantasies as they see them described in such novels. it does make them excited but not necessarily smarter. all books with information make people smarter but i doubt romance novels make anyone smarter...they only make you more creative in that field.

I know many women who are smart without reading romance novels. Maybe the topic should be changed to why do men feel insecure when they come to know that their significant others are reading romance novels? maybe I will inspire a new thread here on... or maybe End of Discussion. You decide.

I don't think it has to do with the genre but with the fact when we read, we stretch our minds, reach beyond our everyday world and imagine a world we would wish to live in. Read ON!

I think reading books make us intellectually smarter. Not sure reading Romance makes women emotionally smarter, think rather it sets them up with unrealistic expectations of life. I have three friends that it took weeks to get over reading Twilight because they realised that no one had ever loved them the way Edward loved Bella.
