By narrator do you mean a 3rd person viewpoint or the omnipotent view? Because if 3rd person than I definitely opt for narrator. It gives less bias to the story and more details are included. But I've only got this opinion recently, I used to favour 1st person above all else...

I prefer first person. As a reader I connect better with the character's emotions and motives in this format.

Recently I have been reading a lot of narrated books, and I am starting to think that I like the 1st person better. I feel like it's more personal and I can get to know the characters better, at least from one person's point of view. I feel like with the narrator, I can't get attached to characters as easily.

I don't think I really have a preference in this. However, I probably have read more narrated books than 1st person books.

It depends on the author. Some authors can make narrator (or third person) work very well for them, and present an interesting story without too many main characters clogging up the pipes so to speak, but others just shouldn't do it. When the author portrays the third person narrative well, I prefer it, but if they can't 1st person is the way to go.

I think first person is much better as compared to narrator. Firstly, we get a great deal of insight into what he character is experiencing at every moment, throughout the book. It is like a chat we are having with that person. Becoming their best friend and confidant for long while. Secondly, because we do no know what is going on on the oyher side of the novel, we enjoy a great of suspense and surprises just as the character. Sometimes we become so engrossed with the character that we begin to imagine ourselves as being one. In the end we fall in love with the character and the book alltogether.

I definitely like 1st person more, I feel like I enjoy it and connect more with the characters. Although I don't mind narrator too much.

I think it depends on the story. Some stories would just be really different if they were written from the other point of view. Think about how different the Harry Potter series would've been if the story was told in Harry's or Hermione's voice!

I prefer first person. A narrator seems too detached. When a story is told in first person you get the characters thoughts and emotions directly from them...I prefer it that way.

It depends on the story, but I do prefer first person. It is nice to get inside the head of a character and see what they are thinking and feeling.
