I do not and will not scribble in the margins. I like for all of my books to stay in excellent condition and I am extremely particular about how they are taken care of. To me if you turn down pages or write in your book it ruins the book.

I'll do this with books I'm reading for school, like summer reading books, but other than that, I don't like to. I feel it mars the pages. If I'm reading an ebook I'll highlight phrases I like, but that's all.
You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me.

I would be more likely to use the 'add note' function in an ebook than to write in the margins of a printed book.

I usually circle the page no in pencil if there is something I particulary want to note & of course, on Kindle I'd just highlight or bookmark

I've on seldom occasions thought about doing this...But I just can't bring myself to do so. Anything I seem to write ends up looking lame to me afterwards.

On my textbooks, yeah, I do scribble notes in there. I do it to highlight important details and I find it really effective. But its not the same with my literature books. I love to see them clean, pure, unadulterated.

Im one of those people that treat the pages of a book like they're holy! But when I come across the notes of a stranger in a book I cant help but read them.

I can't stand when people write in books and then they try to erase it and it only smears it all over the page and sometimes it even rips the page.

As an English teacher, any book that I think I might possibly teach or even has the potential of good passages, makes me keep a pencil close at hand. I LOVE good quotations. Those are what I usually mark in my books. I decorate my classroom with them.

I don't really like writing in books that I read for pleasure, but if I'm studying something, usually philosophy, then I don't have a problem writing in the margins or highlighting lines. I remember going through my copy of Thus Spake Zarathustra by Nietzsche and seeing almost every margin filled with some kind of note or other.

I used to do all the shabby scribbling things on my textbook. But when it comes to fictional or self-help books I would keep them as neat as possible.

I absolutely do this if I plan to write something about it later. I found that a lot of the books I read in college are marked up pretty bad. If it is solely a pleasure read, I tend to shy away from it.
