I prefer to keep my books pristine. It gives me a special joy to have a perfect bookshelf.

I know I personally can't stand to write in books myself, so I don't. But since I buy most of my books used, I tend to find it in my own books. A few times, I've been reading a textbook for school and someone wrote some insight in the margins that, surprisingly, really helped. Most of the time I hate it, though.

Yeah, especially fiction, writing in a book is so annoying. At the most in non-fiction I'll put a tiny star, heart, or rose next to a favorite passage of mine, but other than that, nope I don't like it. And if I'm picking up a used book from a bookstore, I'll put it back if it has writing in it, to be honest; unless it's a vintage book.

I consider my books to be sacred, so writing in them is something I would never even dream of. Honestly, even folding or bending pages is upsetting to me. I can't explain why exactly, but I do everything I can to keep my books as pristine as possible.

It does annoy me when I see that, especially in library books. It's one thing if you want to alter your own possession. Even more disturbing to me is when people fold pages and break the spines of books.

YES! I love finding old books in second hand book shops with notes all along the margins. It’s fascinating to see other people’s perspectives, especially when you yourself have read in to it in a completely different way.

I don’t mind the writing in the front or back of books but any where else is annoying & distracting especially when you are reading.

I don't mind at all. In fact, I often write in the margins of books or underline key sentences, especially when I am reading for school.

I underline and circle and jot down questions and notes - but only in books I know will stay in my forever library.

The only books I write in are books for school or work, so they are more study materials that hobby.

The only books that should be written in would be self help and textbooks that you own. If there is material that you have to reference and or study, writing in these types of books is very helpful if not essential.

If it were a text book for school, I would care less about writings, underlines, or highlights inside. But if it were books I purchased for my personal reading pleasure, I would never dare make a mark on it. I do have a bookworm friend who likes highlighting her books so to each their own, I guess.

I don't like writing on books. If I want to make notes, I would do that on a separate copy.

I actually really enjoy writing in my books. It helps me keep my thoughts straight and I of course only write in books I own.
