I usually put something on in the background whether it's music or a tv show. Something for me to tune out while I read my book.

I usually do not. If I do, I prefer something without lyrics.

Oh no, I couldn't! I would get too distracted by the lyrics. Or even if it was just classical music, it usually makes me zone out and meditate, but then I wouldn't be able to focus!

I need to be listening to music to make the experience whole. When listening to music and blocking out the real world I feel like I am living in the book that I am reading, it fills me with an unexplainable emotion. Plus its fun to find songs that remind you of certain characters or a part of one of your favorite books :).

I can listen to soft music and instrumentals but I can never listen to the songs while I am reading.

It depends on my mood and the type of book I'm reading. There are books heavily inspired by different cultures and need specific music to immerse myself.

I am (unfortunately) not a great multitasker so I would not purposefully put on music when I am about to read. However, if I am somewhere where there is music softly palying in the background or people are talking in the distance I can, depending on the book genre, tune it out enough not to be bothered.

It depends on the material being read. If I need to do in-depth study and citations and such, I prefer silence. If I'm just having fun, I listen to music. If I'm deeply involved in an intense drama or story I prefer silence so I can get deeply immersed in the world and universe of the book.

I rarely listen to music while I read. If I listen to music then I make sure to select a calm music.

I have to listen to music. Otherwise, the world seems a little too big/quiet if there is no noise in the background. However, the only music I can listen to is classical or acoustic.

I do, sometimes. Music can be distracting. There are times when I can't concentrate on what I am reading because I am singing along to the music I am listening to.

Yes I love having music on the background. But this is strictly when I am preparing for exams. I donโ€™t do it while reading novels.
