Not like that ever happened to me, but I would not know if I should read a book if somebody random told me it was good. Opinions?

I have read books that random people recommended. I guess it depends on how convincing the random person is at selling the book.

It is no different to reading a book that has good reviews on Amazon or goodreads etc. If it is a genre I like and it comes recommended......I'll add it and read it.

I might give it a try. I have done it before and like the book and other times I have hated it. All I can do is look into it and try the first chapter.

Absolutely as long as the genre is something I am in to!

Only if the plot was to my taste.

It might at least make me interested enough to check out the book to see if it's something I'd want to read.

I mean I definitely take into account Amazon reviews before buying a book, so yes?

No, I might note it but would wait until I had the opinion of some of my trustworthy & reputable reviewers before making a decision. I'm always sceptical when someone is excessively evangelical about a book ... as with the 50 SOG hype!
As I've said here previously if I start a book I always have to finish it - so I have to be cautious about what I select.

I might go and check it out if it sounded like my type of book - I have come across some good authors that way so wouldn't necessarily dismiss it out of hand.
