SWITCHING " Genres? " To What ??....

Post by suzy1124 »

Formerly, I was a big Mystery fan, (Lawrence Saunders, P.D. James, Agatha Christie, etc )...

Somehow, my reading interests changed and I strayed...

Being on here has whetted my appetite for a good whodunit, so I'm reading Missing You by Harlan Coben, and after that 3, by Ted Dekker ( thanks Russell! ).....

It feels good to take a step outside of one's usual " genre "...........

How about you ?...do you ever deviate?...

I used to love fantasy and read nearly only in that genre. Then I expanded to also cover scifi. Funnily enough, years later I now am hardly interested in fantasy but have broadened my spectrum to other fiction also but I do like a unusual, weird or magical element in them.
I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over.
Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

I have definitely evolved over the years. When I was young I went through a phase where I liked Historical Romances…now I can't read them. Then I got hooked on John Saul and Stephen King…so thriller/horror books which I still read. After that I went to Romances with a twist or Romantic Suspense. I still enjoy Romantic Suspense. From there I started reading Thrillers…mostly psychological thrillers usually with/about serial killer and I still love those.

Now I am all over the place. I read whatever strikes my fancy. Over the past year I have enjoyed memoirs, historical fiction…from the slavery days in America to the Holocaust, and the Civil Rights movement for blacks, native americans and women. I will also read some YA novels and some chick lit…but I still love my thriller/suspense books.

I like variety and don't like to be stuck in one genre. So many books to read and so little time

I read most genres and switch between them. I also read whatever strikes my fancy. :)

I like the Myron Bolitar books by Harlan Coben. Ted Dekker is very good :)

Have you tried Still Life (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache #1) by Louise Penny? She has been recommended to me and that sounds a bit like your old comfort genre

I had a phase of Amish or historical romance, but now that is leaving me, getting old, and I LOVE to read historical fiction. It's so realistic.I also had a time way back when I liked Nancy Drew mysteries and Hardy Boys. That was some years ago and I'm over that. Now I love historical books that are about reality.

I used to read a lot of crime novels, but recently I started reading romance novels. It's a good change, but I think I will soon switch back to crime novels.

I read a lot of genres. I am not restricted by any genre whatsoever. Although I prefer sci-fi, I still read other genres whenever I wish.

I used to love reading romance, now I like thriller or any action comedy.

I am a fan of so many genres already. I plan on reading more YA fantasy books.
