Sometimes, the author happens to have a great and creative general idea about the story and the plot, but just ruined it all by relying so much on the creative idea alone without caring for the language, the story-telling, or the characters.
What books made you think like it could be better?

Immortal Supers by Kurtis Eckstein. The story follows an immortal who has lived for hundreds of years, which is a really interesting concept. But after the first couple of chapters it is barely used anymore. It just feels like following a 20 year old with a boring personality, who just happens to be indestructible.

I recently reviewed Just Die by E. Alan Fleischauer on OBC and this is how I felt about it. The overall premise sounded so cool and hooked me in but the actual execution of the idea wasn't done well. The idea is the guy can make people die by pointing at them and saying "just die". I enjoyed the characters but they weren't very fleshed out and my biggest complaint is the second half of the book didn't give the same concept or warmth as the first half did.
