Do you write your name inside your book cover?

Post by melbuhtoast »

I recently purchased a used book and noticed that a previous owner had written her name on the inside of the front cover. Does anyone else do this? And if so, why? Is it to help people you lend books out to remember who they borrowed it from? Because it gives you a sense of ownership? Do you include the date to remind you of when you purchased the book?

I don't personally, but there are moment when I lend out books to people - whether it be friends, family, or acquaintances - where I wonder if the book will ever be returned to me and think that writing my name in the cover might help. I also like to keep my books looking nice, and feel like I am somehow "hurting" the book if I write in it (even though I wrote in books all the time in high school and college!).

Only for books I need for school or for books I am reading out of the house/going to lend out.

I can read most books in a night and they don't leave the house, so I don't do this very often.

Usually just my first name. A group of work colleagues pass books between us so it's useful to be able to identify who the book belongs to.

No I don't, since there isn't any need for it.

Yes I write my name on the inside of my books, But ONLY if I've read it and I like it. I do this because if I didn't like the book then I can sell it and get my money back or i can give it to a friend, and I don't have to worry about someone else knowing my name. OR if a friend loans me a book and it's not my book then I'm not tempted to write my name in the book.

Noooooooooooo! I don't write anything in books! They remain untarnished aside from the bending that happens while reading. That's part of why I love Kindle books, I can highlight without doing any desecration :)

I have never written my name inside my book. I personally hate it. When I was in school, my teacher would make all of the students write their names in their textbooks and I would refuse to or just write in it super lightly with a pencil, then erase it later. I also feel as if I'm "hurting" the book and adding an imperfection to it.

I only write my name inside a book cover if it's a book I'm lending out and I want to get it back. I've also written my name in text books so that if a lot of people have the same book then I will know which one is mine if someone accidentally takes the wrong book. Books that I keep at home I don't feel a need to have my name on.

I don't write my name inside my book cover, I feel as if it take from it. Instead, I sign my initials at a corner of the last page of the book. Just to leave a mark that it was once mine.
