I've seen this a lot in books but I personally couldn't do it. Goodreads is enough for me to know what I've read and when I've read it. Then again, I usually don't keep most of the books I buy and want them to be in good reselling condition as well. It could be neat if you had people to pass it along to, but then again there is always bookcrossing, which makes the book signatures digital :)

Most of the time no. Only for really expensive textbooks (for school).

Actually, I agree! I would never do it, but if I get a used book with a name or message in it I love it :)

Yes! I write my first name and the date I started reading the book. The date is obviously for me to remember when I read that book but I'm not sure why I write my name lol. It's just a habit I took from my dad.

Yes I do.It's because I own a very few books and I don't want to lose it and cataloguing it helps me to keep me tab on everything.

No, I have never been one to write in books. I do find it interesting when I buy used books to see when someone has written something in it. Once I purchased a very old collection of Kipling books and found an old address and phone number- it was back when phone numbers had letters in them, so I found that very interesting.

No, I don't. I personally think it just hurts the resale value.

Nope. I don't like writing in my books at all unless it is my Bible.

Only books I have ever written in are my textbooks and even then I mostly just highlighted important sections. Sometimes though, if I do find a sentence that captivates me I MAY put a small little star next to it with a pencil. No more than that. I rarely lend out my books anyways so writing my name in them isn't important.

I will say though, when I was a child I LOVED writing my name in my books. Sometimes I would even put my house phone number just in case it got lost. :lol2:

I agree with you! I always feel bad when I write in my books, I usually only do that when I am analyzing it in depth but I pretty much only use sticky notes now. I often think that I should put my name on my books but I don't want them to look... unkept? I think thats what best describes what I feel about writing in books. Also, if I were to ever give that book off as a present to a person I don't want them to forever see my name.

No, because I will probably end up passing the book onto someone else.

No, I don't do that. I feel like it's just 'spoiling' the neatness and beauty of the book! (I know I'm weird.) But really, since I don't really lend out my books to anyone, I don't see the need in writing my name. It's just me and my sister reading the books anyway.
