Re: Reading over sleeping

I have read through the night, mainly because I know that if I stop reading, I will keep going through what's happening in my book and want to pick it back up. I had problems sleeping in college because I lived in the dorms, so I would read books until I got sleepy enough. That wasn't good most of the time because I had class early a few quarters.

I stayed up late for a book, but I have never skip sleeping for a book. That makes me weak and my muscles aching. So, I take rest and the first thing in the morning is to grab my book.
A joke is to entertain people. If it fails to do so, it's something else!

This is a common occurrence in my life. You can tell when I'm really invested in a book when I have purple bags under my eyes.

I deliberately read until my eyes are too heavy. And then I stay awake just long enough to close my Kindle. Sometimes, I wake up when I my Kindle bounces in my hand because my body is shutting down while my mind wants to read just one more page. It's always a losing battle, though.

Most definitely! I know the book is really good when I sacrificing sleep (which I also cherish) to read! :)

Yes, a good book has kept me up many times till its almost time to get up. When I got my Harry potter and the deathly hallows book, i did two overnighters to finish the book while attending school at day time.

I don’t have a choice sometimes, when I’m reading a good book, I don’t realize that I’m reading into my sleeping time.

That's tough for me...usually am so tired by night. Though sometimes I force myself to read until so late, especially when nearing the end of a book..
Just remembered too when we were young; we used to watch movies from one morning to another without sleep...that was so crazy then!!!

Yup! I definitely do stay up all night reading a book because I'm soo immersed in the story.
The first time I remember doing it was while reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Then I found myself doing the same thing with Inheritance by Christopher Paolini.
Now, during the pandemic, I find myself staying up all night reading almost everyday! I feel like an owl now

The latest I ever stayed up to read a book was 3:30am. I usually try not to pass 1:00am though.

I used to stay up all night reading during summer vacations. I used to love doing that because everyone else in the house was quiet, but now I have a one-year-old and staying up all night to read just doesn't work anymore.

I have lost sleep over books many time eversince I was a child. At times, a family member came up and reminded me that I needed to sleep. Good books make me very immersed which makes it hard to just interrupt the reading and do other things.

I try to read at times that prevent this from happening. Since I know I tend to get immersed in books, I make sure I start them early enough in the day that I won't screw up my entire sleep schedule if I read it in one sitting, which I usually do. That means for longer, harder books, I wait until the weekend and start in the morning. Both reading and sleep are important to me; I had to find a way to have them mix well.
