I always read a lot as a child too. I remember liking:
- Watership Down by Richard Adams
- The Black Stallion series by Walter Farley <loved it!>
- Nancy Drew series by Carolyn Keene
- Bunnicula series by James Howe
- The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner

An early personal favorite was The Berenstain Bears and the Spooky Old Tree. My kids like it now too. :D

:text-yeahthat: Nice list! All I would add to it is The Hardy Boys and The Chronicles of Narnia. 8) Oh, and My Side of the Mountain too.

Princess Furball by Charolotte Huck - I had my dad read this to me over and over and over again!
also Teddy Bears' Picnic by Jimmy Kennedy - my dad would actually sing me the whole book! Not too long ago my dad and I hadn't seen eachother in a while and I'd found that book and brought it. He sang it to me just like he used to and we both sobbed!!

As I got a bit older, my nose was always burried in Babysitter Club books or Goosebumps! I also loved those "choose your path" books where you made a choice to advance the plot and turn to a specific page. It was a challenge to get the ending you wanted to happen and also like many books in one!

I was obsessed with Enid Blyton's books for a very long time. I loved all her books. I was determined to buy all of them. But once I started reading the Harry Potter series, my obsession began to fade away.

You're welcome!! Yeah, check that out, but I'll warn you... You just might wind up on a scary submarine at the ocean's floor, trying to find a way to resurface while avoiding the tentacled octopus...

When I was a child, a enjoyed reading Astrid Lindgren's books, for example 'Six Bullerby Children' or 'Madicken'. The Swedish writer could create a fantastic world, when children were happy. But I haven't read many popular novels as 'The Chronicles of Narnia' or 'Anne of Green Gables'. I could read them now but it seems to me that I am to old for them and they won't have the magic for me now. When I was a child, no one recommended me good classic books for children.

I was/am a big reader, even as a child that was primarily what I did for fun! I would have to say that as a child my top 5 favorite books were:
1) Eloise At The Plaza- Kay Thompson
2) Alice In Wonderland- Lewis Carroll
3) The Wizard of OZ ( All of them...and there is a total of 14!)- L. Frank Baum
4) Love You Forever- Robert Munsch
5) ALL of the Madeline books- Ludwig Bemelmans

I remember reading and liking the series of 'The Secret Seven' and 'The Famous Five'. These books have adventure tales of a group of seven or five children respectively, who is always on some sort of secret mission; a mission with a good cause. They were available in the school library and always used to be in huge demand.

I love The Babysitters Club books. I also loved babysitting so it seemed to go hand in hand.
