The first book I read outside school work was "Red Rackham's Treasure" by Hergé. I was 10 years old.

"The Hungry Thing" is a children's book that I loved when I was younger.
For my first real book though, it was "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" a classic that got me on the fantasy track in elementary school :)

One of my first favorite books outside of school assignments was a children's version of "Black Beauty" because I was obsessed with horses as a child. Close behind that was "I Rode a Horse of Milk White Jade". I rode both several times, and as an adult as well.

The first book I read was "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe. I read it when I was 11 years old. Since then, I have grown to like the author and all his works.

Wow. That was a long time ago. I don't even remember what book it was. At the time I hadn't developed a good reading habit though. But it must have been good since my reading habit improved massively after that.
