I do not rate it. Like a bad date, I chalk it off to an unfortunate experience and close the chapter as early as I can. Can't review what I dn't fully understand anyway.

I only rate or review a book if I have completely finished it. That's the only way to give a fair review. If you haven't finished you really can't give an honest rating for the plot. If someone does rate a book they didn't finish they should put an explanation as to why they did not finish. Something that bothered them may not bother somebody else.

Generally books I don't finish just feel really slow to me (Or they are too badly written for my taste, or a combination of both.) I sometimes do a review if I think the book wasn't really not good but most of the time I take that book back to my shelf and try again later so I don't bother with a review. On goodreads I will give the stars I think it deserved just because it asks me to.

I was worried that I was going to run out of room on my Kindle, so I started taking books off as soon as I finished them. And taking them off is my cue to rate them on Goodreads. So if it is still on my Kindle, that means it is unread and therefore would not have a rating yet.

I would perhaps give it a bad rating if I read some of it and it was really bad.
If it was mediocre I would probably not rate it because I wouldn't know if it would get better or worse.

I tend to always finish the book I start. True, sometimes I can take a months long break before finishing, but I do. I am stubborn like that. I only DNF a book if I have to return it to the library or something like that. If that's the case, I don't rate it or review it.

I don't rate books that I don't finish because I don't think its fair for the people who might seriously consider that rating. However, I rarely don't finish a book, even if I am not enjoying it.

Nope, I don't review or rate books that I did finish reading. If I choose a book, I make sure that I finish reading it and then I rate or review it on book apps.

I don't rate them because I feel that it is unfair by me not finishing the book.

Never. I add it to my DNF shelf. I don't think I can give it a fair rating if I didn't even both finishing it.

I lvoe this analogy! That's all you can do, brush it off and move on to the next book. I also don't review them, I add them to my DNF shelf on Goodreads and move on. It feels wrong to rate a book that I didn't finish and understand properly.

I would not rate a book that I could not finish. I feel it is unfair to the writer. ... I would have put in a certain amount of thought before picking a certain book. So I would not leave it unfinished.

I don't know but it seems illegal to rate a book you didn't even finish. Like, what if it was not your choice but someone might have a little bit of that taste in reading? And what if by seeing your rating and review, they begin to have second thoughts as to whether read it or not? Generally, I have my views on that book I don't like and didn't finish but I prefer not to ruin someone else's plans in reading that book. Or, if I really don't like a book, it is better to keep my review unbiased. That may help.

There is always the chance the book would have surprised me had I finished it. Maybe the characters became more likable, maybe the humor finds its stride, or there is a really satisfying ending. That is why I would rather not rate a book I haven't read the whole way. It seems unfair to the author as well as the readers who pressed on and found something worthwhile.
